Hard hitting sub under $250

What do you recommend? I feel like I can do better than my Alpine Type R (600wrms model). I was thinking AQ HDC312 or Sundown SA12? I want to keep the 12" size. And also, I would like the sub to be able to perform as well or better than my type r on 500wrms, since I don't have the money to buy a new amp just yet. I am not interested in buy used. And I'm open to other options. Will anything be plug and play in the sense that I can use my existing box?

They will not know if you can use your box unless you post the specs

Can you use your existing box with a different sub? Of course. But every sub performs differently in any given enclosure. I would do my best to take measurements of what you have now and talk to someone who builds boxes here to determine if that volume will work well with whatever you choose to replace your current sub.

Matter of fact, I just ordered a new enclosure for my ID10 from @double 07 ; because I'd rather not even start playing the guessing game. Between your two listed choices, I have more experience being around the Sundown than the AQ, but both tend to be favorably reviewed here.

If you can get kicker L7s go for it.

if you want to keep your same box try and find kicker cvx

Yeah if he could post up the box specs as far as it's dimensions, port's dimensions, and thickness of wood that the box is constructed with would be helpful....

but, if the is constructed well, I would say that both the AQ and the SA would outperform the alpine in every way. I personally have an hdc3 18" and I love my aq, so on that part im a bit partial to aq

I know it's built to Alpine's specs for the 12" R. And it's made with .75" mdf. It's a pretty solid box tbh. The shop I got the sub and amp from built it in house. I would look up the dimensions of the box and port but I'm at school on an iPad. Haha

I havent measured it myself, but that's what they told me. So I would assume so.

I wasnt taking that guy that said to get the kickers seriously. I wouldnt.

And would there be a noticeable difference if I get the AQ and dont change amps? Better sq or spl? Or both?

Alright cool. I just looked at those specs I just posted and noticed something. The dimensions are 13.5 x 13.5 x 24. And I know the 24" is the length from left to right. But it says the port length is 22." And the port on my box is vertical. How would the port length be 22" if the box is only 13.5" tall?

aq is a better sub all around...but id build a box around 2.5 @ 33. with about 16-18 in^2 of port those aq like to breathe..i run dd 3512.s very similar and am about to buy 2 hdc3 myself for.my all aq build ..box is 5 cubes
