Get low and loud sub convo between buddies...

ok I had to google that cuz i had NO idea wtf it was lol. Soooo that basically means those two subs SHOULD best the expected output given the proper box and wattage?
And im about to ask a dumb question here...i admitted i didnt know much about ported boxes...

But I "thought" when a box was tuned to to 43...or 40..or 37..or WHATEVER hz thats where the "meat" of the bass would hit...like a sweet spot. Am i wrong for thinking that? I know it will still play whatever freq the signal is given a crossover or whatnot and its not like a bass boost at a certain hz but in the grand idea am I close to right?

Ive been going back and forth with my buddy with whats being said in here and he said well you have two 8's..thats like one 15in sub as far as cone area.....and the one 10in L7 is like a round 12 as far as cone area and the 12 is like a 15..so that right there says it will move more air. I said its still more to it than that....and if square subs were so great how come I NEVER see any in good spl or sq builds.
When I was running my 3512 tuned to 43hz, the strongest notes to my ear were around 35-38hz. Loudest on the meter was at 45hz.

With that, my truck just about shook apart with 35hz tones....specially while I was running 2 amps on her.

As far as were the "meat" will be(haha) that will be install/vehicle dependent for the most part.

and no, 2 8's are not equal to 1 15. 3 8's are about equal to 1 12...

Hmmmmmmm...verrrry good to know. All this has me rethinking my subs and going with one solid 12 lol. My wife hates when I start a project...i change it 50 times before its done lol.
I was real bad with that with my home 2ch only system.....

Well I finally found the sound I was looking for here(now with 2 separate systems). And I may just about be there with the truck...

Yeah the wifey wont let me touch the home system anymore...i added some smaller surround sound speakers last year and she said everything else works just fine and to leave it alone lol.
lol...

Well...I got into tube amps......mucho $$$$$ with just the cost of the amps let alone rolling different tubes...

at least the double as heaters when its cool out...lol

Little bit harsh man, if set up properly kickers perform fine, there is better for the money though and I enjoy being louder than the guys in town with 2 l7s and 1500w but I have seen and heard a few kicker systems that performed. I bought a pair of comp 10s for my old truck and I could put money on it that you would've thought they were bigger subs. But they were in a big box and they were on 1200w. They were still shiny an golden when I sold them
kickers can be loud if done right. but if we are talking in the world of all subs being set up right theyd get pooped on by everything made by cheaper non mainstream companies like the ones listed. and they sound bad no matter what. (mainly squares)

Tube amps.....ooooh yeah they can get expensive real quick. I used to keep up on home audio pretty good till I started drag racing in the mid to late 90s
and what u said about the hdc3. its sql geared. they sound wonderful on low power in well made boxes and still get loud.

gcon and lv3 will break Hoffman's Iron Law
No they will not, and do not, break Hoffman's Iron Law. No speaker does (of any size, types, etc). That's like saying that "too little power killed my speaker." It simply doesn't happen. Ever.

Others that have spoken about what is louder in their car are experiencing the effects of cabin gain (or a very out of projected spec enclosure/woofer). The make and model of a woofer does not immediately mean that their [those] woofers alter the laws of physics.

That was sarcasm. OP stated that he needed a sub to play really low, be really efficient, in a tiny box "like the lv3 and gcon". I was trying to point out the absurdity of the request/comment

I took it as sarcasm lol...i knew what ya meant hispls, by the way..totally off the subject but your avatar still makes me laugh...i did see that episode, but back to the story at hand. All this talk has already made me think about chaning my current set up. So I will be considering the following...

SSA GCON 12in

DC lvl3 12in

SPLaudio custom built 12in

in a 1.5 or so ported box with 1000-1200w daily power

I ruled out the Audioque HDC3 12 as im not going for pure SPL and from what ive seen they really like bigger boxes, bigger than i wanted to go.

hmmmm...didn't consider one 15 in a sealed enclosure...but ill be honest I know nothing about that mb quart. Just wanted to try a ported and knew in a smaler box the 12 would fit better.
