Gain Setting Tutorial

Then I suspect the amp pooched.
how can that be though? its not like there is no signal cause when i hook them up and play the test tone... his **** neighbors come out pissed so i know the amps still working. there is a signal it just wont pick it up.

i know. there is no other explanation other than i must be ****in up somewhere. i mean only thing that can be wrong is that i THINK i am doing it right and aren't. oh well when i see him again im gonna give it another go, and then probably another. thanks anyways guys.

not sure what 3 phase or 1 phase plugs are jmac

aneonrider: yea when i get 120 volts from the wall i have the black (ground in the com plug like the manual says) and then the red plug in the V part.

i just did it again. this time i actually got a reading. altho i believe with the equation i am suppose to be getting about 70 volts out of the viper but when i had my gain maxed out i only reached up to 40 volts. wouldnt go any higher with a 50hz test tone. any idea?

you serious? so increase sub level to +15 and this will result in me having to turn my gain down right? cause right now its at a little under 3/4 looks like to me. and if i leave gain at what it is now and have the sub level at +15 the bass will be SOOO over exagerated it wont even be funny. btw can anyone confirm this? cause ive been runnin my hu at +0 for as long as ive had it.

If you turn it up to +15, yes you will have to gain down.
ok 2 quick questions

1) is it really gonna make that much of a difference if i have the gain higher with +0 instead of having the gain lower with +15, or is it just gonna give me less of a chance of clipping if that even?

2) and if its at +15 does this only effect the sub amp? or will it also effect the mids/high amp. like will it be 4v for all preouts or just the sub preout?

Same advantage as running a line driver, the lower than gain knob is, the better s/n ratio, and the easier time the amp has running itself.

The full range outputs are 4V, just the sub out is affected like this.

I have a Brutus Hifonics Amp 1500BX. They are going to power two Alpine Type R's at 2 Ohms. Any idea at what i should set the gain on? The HU is a Alpine 9823, output is i think 4 volts. I dont want to get the multimeter cause I am really low on cash, and this thing would be a one-time use thing for me anyway. I looked through the first page of this thread and got really confused so I just skipped ahead to post. Sry if this has been repeated already.

ok yea, thats what it would seem like. so i guess im gonna try it again later today and looks like i gotta do it on my setup too.

bolla: you can just use the turn gain up till you hear distortion and then turn it down method. thats not really whats it called but it is an acceptable method.
