Few Questions Regarding 2 12" Type-R's

So I have two alpine type-r 12's in a Nissan 200sx and I'm looking to increase my output as much as possible but I'm on a budget since I just finished up college and I have to start paying student loans and what not. I'm trying to figure out the next step I should take as far as improving my system.

Right now I don't have enough power going to the subs really, I only have an alpine m-650 amp powering the two. I also have a pretty shitty box, it's only 1.25 cubic feet per sub and it's a vented enclosure (**** prefabs).

I've tried playing with the direction of the subs and also the position and I can't seem to figure out which is giving me the best output. I've heard that facing them towards the front and moving them as close as possible is the best, but I really don't notice much of a difference.

So mainly my questions would be then:

1) Which direction and position do you guys think would give me the best output from the subs.

2) Which step should I take first; Getting another amp so that the subs have more power, or getting a custom box built.

Keep in mind, I'm looking for mainly SPL here, I know that I'm not going to get any huge numbers, but I'm just trying to get a bit more for street use, not going to be going to any comps or anything.

Appreciate any help!

Thanks

Un hook one of the subs and run 1 12 on that amp until you can get another one. Put them in a 2.2cu.ft. ported box. I cant give you any recommendations on a tuning freq.

I have 2 Type Rs 12s in a 4.2 cu.ft. box ported to 32/33 hz. Only difference is I have a M1005 on each sub and it pounds good for me...

Well if I'm keeping the two 12's then, itd be best just to get another amp then instead of getting a new box, and getting the box later? I can definetly get a new amp if you guys will think that will be the biggest upgrade for me at this time.

But also, what about positioning? I still can't really decide which is giving me the best output.

I bet you that the one type R off 600w RMS would sound better then both only getting 300w RMS in a shitty pre fab box....

Build your own box FTMFW....2-2.5ft^3 tuned anywhere between 32-35Hz will sound good and slam.

Either that or sell the alpine amp and buy a Hifonics 1606D and wire the subs to it to present a 1 ohm load so you send each sub 800w RMS or even a Hifonics 1206D with subs wired to one ohm at the amp for 600w RMS to each sub.

Throw them in a 4-5ft^3 ported box tuned between 32 and 35Hz FTMFW.

yeah only reason I have the alpine amp is I get a huge discount on them, I can get one new from best buy for $170. I'm going to be building a custom box for them, I was thinking something along the lines of a 5.0 at 35hz, but I'm a little low on cash atm, seems like the first thing I need to get is more power to them though from the responses I've gotten so far.

If hes running 2 dual 2 ohm type rs at a final load of 2 ohms on that amp how would he run one with 600 watts? The amp won't handle a 1ohm load. 1 would only get 400 watts.
