Everything is a blur.. sq sub choices

Ok, well, everyone keeps telling me that the Brahma and XXX aren't a good choice for my SQ application, while others tell me that the Brahma/XXX are 100% pure SQ (and also the Magnum D2).

So which is it? I'm very, very confused here. Do they not sound good at 500W RMS or less??? :stuck:

Clean, responsive, SMOOTH (not too punchy) and deep bass is EXACTLY what I want. Techno/Rap is what I mostly listen to, along with some old-rock.. AC/DC, etc. What I don't NEED is SPL. I just want the cleanest, smoothest and DEEPEST bass I can get without high dB levels, in as small of a box as possible.

This will be in a bi-amplified system with 6.5" components up front in kicks (most likely CDT Eurosports) in a extended cab ford truck.

I am still planning on a single 15" or dual 12" subs... but if I swing the XXX/Brahma route, it will be a single sub.

So, I have been researching lower power handling subs..

considering these with 500W RMS (250 apiece)

- 2x 12" JL Audio 12W3-V2

- 2x Magnum D2 (not sure about these yet, the Fs is quite high, 32Hz, and I want deep bass.. the SQ is definitely there as I have heard nothing but RAVE reviews)

- 1 15" JL Audio 15W3

- 2 12" RE RE12's

- 1 15" RE HC15

I can work around the subs as far as a box goes.. prolly close to 3.0 ft^3 max though... smaller is better, however //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i'm getting bummed out over this, so any help is greatly appreciated!

I'd just go with a single Brahma 15 and use it in about 2.5cf sealed. As far as do they not sound good with 500 watts or less, that's just silly.

Anyone that claims that there is some mystery wattage level where the SQ of a woofer really changes, is lying. It wouldn't even make any sense, honestly.

Actually, with most drivers, the louder they get, the WORSE they sound, because they continuously increase in distortion, despite popular misconception on how that works.

The Brahma and XXX both use XBL^2, so they maintain constant BL, and with the spiders they use, you get constant suspension compliance as well, which helps to further reduce distortion, and just make the driver increase in volume with additional power (within excursion limits), rather than continuously deviate further and further from the source material from the moment it begins to move.

Either driver with 500 watts would perform extremely well.

Honestly, so could every other driver you mentioned. The XXX and Brahma come out on top for linearity out of all of the subs mentioned, however.

yes like Falcon Xteme said go with the elemental design o or K. I think that the none of those are SQ subs except the JL audio. But i would not reccomed that u buy those.Get something like MB Quart or an SQ oriented company.

I assume this is for PURE SQ?

Have you looked at Phase Linear Aliantes, or even a Velodyne servo ?

Brahma and XXX will serve you well, but with that much power i'd possibly look at an aliante aswell. Assuming its pure SQ your after.

Crystal CMPX2 sounds like that would fit your situation very well. They sound amazing. And 500 watts should be sufficient. Have you though of two Shiva's? as they are meant for more SQ oriented system, and less spl. Whereas the brahma is meant for both. Out of the ones meantioned above the D2 would be a good choice also. Very efficient sub.

Just want to thank everyone for the suggestions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am printing spec sheets out right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Focal explains what I want in 1 sentence: "Deep and articulate bass" lol, just thought i'd throw that in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now, these all are SQ subs, but which of them are gonna get me that deep (15hz-10hz) bass?? The Aliante 15" claims it can burp out 15hz with ease. Any of the others able to do this??

Go with an ed O. My sounds really good with only 400watts rms. There is not point in paying two or three times more if you aren't gonna power it all the way

Honestly, most of the "audiophile" subs are a waste of money, IMO. They do a good job, but with such unremarkable displacement levels, they are going to have MORE distortion than many of the other mentioned drivers, despite what their marketing might try and tell you...

Do you really know how low 15-10hz is?

Unless you listen to cannon blasts for fun, you'll never go down that low with 99% of music.
