Electrical a bit overated, no big 3

the only time i have had a charge issue was when i was being dumb in the city and blasting the stereo, i wasnt gettign any rpms so the alternator wasnt charging the battery fast enough. it took about 15 minutes, the voltage droped to 10.9.

I had bought a voltage meter to keep an eye on that but i didnt know that my car would let me know when it dropped to low. It popped up on my dash, WANRING CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM IMMEDIATLY! lol I am sure that day a single kenetic battery would have done the job. keep in mind ia m still just using the lame *** stock battery.

I had at least as much power as you and other than the big-3 upgrade, I did nothing to my electrical. Yes the lights dimmed on heavy bass notes and dynamic music, but the battery lasted nearly 5 years and only died because my mother-in-law left the lights on and it wasn't discovered for over a week. Battery was at a whopping 2.4 V when I pulled it. A second battery would have helped the dimming but most stock electricals can handle a pretty big system at moderate volumes. Unless you turn on the headlights you'd be hard pressed to tell that anything is different most of the time.

why not reinforce it though, it never hurts. 1200 RMS used to dim my 95 amp alt with new battery til I did the big three.

now i got a new vehicle with 130 amp and its gonna need to be heavily reinforced

well reinforce it for what tho?

It has been 2 years.

what is a normal factory battery lifetime expectation?

2.4v ouch

I have ran 1100 watts on stock electrical. My 2000 blazer v6 with stock alternator and 4awg wire to the amp. No big 3 wiring and no cap. It did have a really good battery bought by the previous owner but nothing like a kinetic, optima, etc. Had a minor amount of dimming at idle sitting still but at highway speed there was absolutely no dimming whatsoever.

Anytime a knowledge member on here is giving out recommendations for an electrical system it is based off the equipment and power being ran.

Obviously if your drawing minimal current you will need minimal modifications to the electrical system to support it.

But, if you want to play with the big boys, you gotta pay like the big boys.

LOL, i agree with playing with the "big boys" i have no real interest in being in a comp, alot of fun to go to but thats where teh road ends for me.

I got raged up this morning because someone was advising a big 3 for a 600watt rms setup. i mean seriously. I figure i will help some of the smaller folks like me. 2 years ago i almost got scared out of upgrading my system because you cannot put a ho alternator in a HHR without removing the computer system completely. i said fuk it. i am gonna do it anyways. Now that i know what i do, i could probably do 2500 watts rms with a kenetic battery in the car safely without much dimming.

What's wrong with doing the big 3? Any car I get for now on I will do it regardless. It's cheap, and depending on which car, it's easy to do. I can understand not getting a HO alt for that small of a system, but BIG 3 is the first upgrade you should do when you install aftermarket amps and subs. I am running 2800RMS but I more than likely will never run my stuff at full tilt. I like to have that luxury of being able to when and if I want.

Bottom line is what works for you may not work for all.

Most people advise the big 3 when someone is having electrical issues since it is about the cheapest thing you can do, and its one of the better modifications to do off the start.

But, there are a lot of misinformed people out there misinforming many others. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I ran ~4kw with a yellowtop + D3100 and never go below 13 volts during bass notes, and stay at 15 volts during 3k+ RPMS ... this was with a DMM on rear battery + epic 160 readout

I have no big 3 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Exactly, and every noob out there immediatly says BIG three! even without concidering .....WHY?

To the commetn above this one(turd), why pay 7-800 bux in batteries when they arent even needed in a lot of cases. i understand that some people make this standard but has anyone questioned the fact? it has turned into a fad like CAPS used to be years ago. Everyone has them but is it necessary?

this thread should be stickied. for the long time pro's it wont affect you and think this is all noob stuff (I would hope) but for the noobies this is a great example before they start spending tons of money on charging equptment.
