Well a cheap Dell would fit you fine...

As for hooking it up to the high speed connection, it depends on how they have it set up. I would assume they have a LAN throughout the building, therefore there must be ethernet jacks in the rooms. Or you could simply need to plug it into a phone jack, which I doubt because that you require your own modem. But if you want to go wireless with it, there are many wireless routers out there that are under $100, and many of the Dell laptops include wireless network PCMIA cards internally.

I'm guessing you're gonna be connecting to a LAN (no dsl/cable shit), so all you'll need is a laptop with a nic card & some cat 5.

Yeah he really didnt need to say it like that lol. NIC Card is a simple ethernet card, allows your PC to accept ethernet cables for data transmission of up to 100mb/s (or 1gb/s depending on the card.) Cat 5 is just ethernet cable....

I am a fan of Dell, I have had great results with their customer support as well as their products, never had a problem with either of the 3 PC's I have had from them, and the laptop I had worked flawlessly until I decided to part it out on eBay.

Give me a minute to come up with something...

Edit- The Inspiron 1200 is only $499 and has everything you need...

Yeah, basically all new laptops will come with that anyway. All Dells do for sure though.

It will just be like plugging in a phone cord, nothing harder than that. It looks like a phone cord, but the actual plug is wider.

hey man i live in the sticks. it's a treat just to have dial up. cable service might come in this area so if i ever come back to michigan how would one go about hooking up a cable modem?
