Connecting a laptop without an aux

Hi everyone,
I recently got a new (to me) car that doesn’t have an Aux - specifically a 2022 RAV4. I record / mix music and I had previously taken my laptop out to my car to mix. I tried to connect my laptop via Bluetooth and it works, except I can’t control the volume. Does anyone know a) why that is and how to work around that or b) any other way to connect my laptop audio to the car?

Well the RAV4 has a USB C input for audio. See if you can pipe the audio from the laptop through a USB output to the USB C input on the Toyota.

Thanks for the response! I tried that today (if I’m understanding you correctly) and it didn’t work. I got a male to male usb C cable. Hooked it up and nothing happened, the car didn’t seem to register that anything had been plugged in.

I was wondering about that.... it says android auto and apple car play through usb c. No chance of using your phone?

Apple car play does work but my mixing software is all on my laptop.

Windows laptop?
Try left-clicking the volume icon, then changing the output selection to your Bluetooth device. That should control the volume (unless the Bluetooth connection is just steaming the files directly).

You may also have to choose the Bluetooth output in your software. Some software (Audacity and JRiver, for example) operate independently of the Windows volume control (but can be set to work in concert with it).

Keep in mind that Bluetooth is usually lossy, so you're not getting a bit-perfect signal at the stereo.
