So I purchased a used alpine type x a while ago and put it in my girls truck for a few months and it sounds great. I took it out of her truck because i wanted to sell it, so i bought a cheapo dmm and checked the coils and they are reading about 2.9 each. Is this a problem? I know that they are hardly every exactly what they say but a whole ohm off seems like a lot. Don't wanna accidentally rip someone off lol.

as long as they two coils dont differ too much from each other i think you would be fine.

how is this OK? A whole ohm is off.

It will affect the amp. 4 coils paralleled into a monoblock would be .75ohms. That seems to be a big problem.

He only has 1 sub so he doesnt have 4 coils.

Even if he had 2 subs then hed just have to find an amp stable down to .75 if thats how he chose to wire it.

The dmm could be off a bit too. Touch the leads on the dmm together to see what it reads before trying it on the sub.

I have installed a alpine sub and amp, using a line output converter it all works but the bass stays steady and does not change with the volume...

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage

Don't forget Hoffman's Iron Law. You can have 2 of the 3: low end, efficiency/sensitivity or small enclosure size...
