crossover...pioneer 720prs vs alpine type-r

HI
I just bought the 720prs, but I haven't installed them yet. From my previous car, I still have the crossovers from the type-r. Should I just use the crossover that came with the 720prs? Or, should I use the type-r crossover? The type-r crossover has more tweeter adjustments. I hate having options and not having knowlegdge of what is better. My gut tells me just use the 720prs crossover since it's made for it. thanks for any help!

use the pioneer crossovers. they are made for that set.
Thanks! I'll do that.

have another question though, do I run everything full range and just let the crossover do all the work? My head unit (pioneer DEH-P5900iB) does have a hpf and my amp (Alpine MRP-F250) has a lpf/hpf. What concerns me is the mid-bass. On my stock speakers, when I have the HU hpf on...the bass just disappears whether if I set it to 63hz or 80hz. I'm not gonna put a sub since I have a truck and I don't want to give up the storage under the rear seats. I would want the mid-bass, but I don't want to sacrifice the longevity of the speakers. Any ideas how I can set this up? oh btw...I was planning on running just the 720prs off the amp so I'm gonna bridge it for the extra power. thanks for any help!

Well normally you will want to set a HPF so that your mids don't see full range, although as long as you are careful, especially since you aren't running a sub, you should be able to get away with it, as that amp isn't cranking out tons of power. Again though, this isn't the ideal way to do it. Normally you'll want to HPF your mids at 63 or 80hz. Have you deadened your doors? If not, try that, then set the HPF and see how it sounds... that should greatly improve your bass response even with the HPF set.

The xover will HPF the tweeters, so you don't have to worry about that.

oh ok...so when using the passive crossover you need to worry most about is the frequencies sent to the mid because the tweeters will get high passed no matter what? hmmm...I guess I'll have to experiment at low volume. I'll try different scenarios like (turn HU hpf off and set amp hpf) or (set HU hpf and turn off amp hpf)

I haven't deadened my doors as budget was an issue. I had $300 to spend at the shop and unfortunately thats how much the 720prs cost. I didn't price any deadeners...so I'll go and price some before I do the install this weekend. hopefully they don't cost much to do 2 doors.

definitely use some sort of high-pass on the mids. even if it's something low with a shallow slope. they won't like getting sent a full blast of 30 or even 40hz. maybe try 50hz/12db for the mids or something like that if you wanna get any kind of volume out of them. the higher you set it the louder you can safely play them.

By HPF'ing the mids, in reality, you are HPF'ing the entire signal being sent to your amps, then once the signal is sent to your xovers, your xovers HPF the tweeters.

As far as deadening goes, you should be able to do both doors pretty extensively with 30-40ft^2. Should run you under $100 if you shop around and will make a world of difference. Read up on some of the tutorials on here and DIYMA on how to do it properly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
