Burp box...

Nah. That's mostly what I listen to and the old DD setup destroyed Manson. But it did destroy everything. Tuning low gives you a flatter curve. Just loses a bit of output.
to non sq guys, they want that output. It sounds better to them, music and spl tastes is subjective and what you think is smooth, flat and nice sounding might just sound weak and unimpressive to others. Some times that extra output is not "a bit" of output its over 6+ dbs of output on the higher registries. Yes tuning higher with the appropriate sized box and port area can definitely have that much higher spl gain.

But what about the low notes? Why tune to miss information.

I don't think anyone ever demoed the scion wondering about its lack of output.

What's not impressive is a 20db difference 30-60hz.

Then you should be tuned to the low 40s to high 30s from the start and never anywhere under 36.
This is a quote from another forum and it starting to make me think... " I like the additional damping of low Qts subwoofers because they work well for when I listen to my music, which happens to have lots of lots of very very fast double-bass drum blasts. My favorite sub in terms of this highly damped sound are Cerwin-Vega Strokers which have Qts from about 0.19-0.26 in the ones I have personally measured. Are they the cleanest sounding? Nope, but you feel the double bass beats as if "you're there live"... now the old Strokers sounding so good in the old Mazda makes a little more sense to me... I've been reading the Vance Dicikinson loudspeaker cookbook (I'm on page 90 or so)... and it really does start to make some sense... I'll probably end up tuning at 36-38 hz daily... LOL!... I'll probably have 3 interchangeable boxes when I'm done... SPL, daily and demo...

When it comes time, your gonna have a tough time selling those enclosures.....cheap. When I sold mine, it took quite awhile for the right buyer to show up.
As it stands now... 3 built for the Blazer is fine with me... sh*t they're the same width and slide right into the back then bolt into the amp rack SOLID... only the "burp" box is slightly above the window line and that's fine... My next daily will be 15" tall like the demo box and match the amp rack... LOL!... I just gotta paint the amp rack, I'll probably build another next week tuned to 36-38 hz... I'll model it first... look for a flatter response and use the same subs... no biggie... I'll probably knock it out in about a day...

This was 32hz. Skip through all my rambling. Played metal and chopped and screwed. I think you will get the idea.

Or the old school method of going black carpeting...either way, make it look nice!

Nice setup... those small 2 door hatches do some serious SPL... of course when you have a DC surfboard and DD subs in there it does help... LOL!.. I've got a 32 hz tuned box sitting right behind me...but it was Skar's recommended box and suffered compression... but sounded OK with most music... then I went bigger and tuned lower...it demos well... then a "burp" box... we'll see... and next I'll do a daily 36-38 hz... LOL!.. this is some SERIOUS physical therapy... I'm doing an "audio rehab regimen"... NOT recommended by my Neurologist... LOL!.. hey, I'm slowly getting my motor skills back... and learning how to model and apply that to actual use!..

It's more then just the tuning freq. port area and airspace matter just as much.

Oh yeah... I know to watch the port area/velocity as it relates to your ACTUAL power level... the airspace/tuning affects the response... I'm NOT an Expert and don't claim to be... but I'm learning...

Boxes are fun. Straight SPL setup's can be whacky or simple. Usually simple works the best. From my experience, usually just a solid musical design will still produce a good score. I was doing close to 150 with 2 1500w DC 18's with only 1200w per sub, tuned at 29 hz with a smaller port area of about 12 in^2 per cube.

One of the largest factors for me is having enough electrical and knowing your vehicle, what frequencies it likes to be loud at.

Yep, the game has changed. I hate going to comps because I just can't stop thinking about what I would change on people's systems to be louder. But that's local to here, no a big audio scene without driving a bit.
