Bought 2 RE audio 18 SX's....... and....

I know most manufcturers at least get parts from China. I said as much in my previous reply. What I dont get is, if they DO make/assemble the SE in China, why did I get a sarcastic reply from an RE/US Amps dealer saying I was misinformed and they design/build their products by hand in the USA.
So I guess I have to ask the question.... who is right? And if its ruel, why are being lead to believe all products are designed, built and assembled in the USA?

Subwoofers are already over-heating extremely, bubble formed on 1 dust cone and crack on the other dust cone, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif :( //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif :( MY ****ING BIRTHDAY PRESANTS WTF

WHY DID THEASE THINGS BLOW FROM 2OHMS 1700RMS BETWEEN 2 SUBWOOFERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtf is going on please watch the video people and let me know what happened to my subwoofers HELPPPPPPPP

Looks like 'hand built in the USA' dosen't mean anything when you use the cheapest parts you can find in china... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Are you still happy with your purchase ?

I've got some SX 18's from 2004 and I needed a dust cap for one (got cracked while in storage)

Anway, I email US Amps/RE and they wanted $25 + shipping for single cap which probably cost them 45 cents... NO THANKS...

Is your box sealed or ported? It appears to be sealed, and if so the SX's don't like sealed boxes AT ALL. That could be the cause of the overheating problem. If the box is ported then it could be clipping from the amps gain being too high. Just my 2cents

it is over 5cubic feet sealed, you could get inside of it and curl up in the box it is massive, as you can all see. Its not like it is a small sealed box. I was told both by the man i spoke to greg carlous and my installer and they said it should not be a big issue and that it would just effect the low-end bass and the responsiveness to the punchyer notes. Plus they are only running on 1700 RMS divided by 2 subwoofers.

I am so pissed off i dont know wtf to do with thease now i am broke and out 800 + dollars, i guess i will be selling off my shit now.

EDIT : the gain is only at 12 oclock position where it has always been. My MA audio's never used to heat up until the one blew the dust cap out the center, but that one was already weakened and held together with PL.

5 cubic feet sealed is definatly on the small side for those subs.. you really need 2x that if not more..

Either way it shouldn't have caused one cracked and one melted dustcap.. I'd chalk this up to cheap dustcaps that are way too thin..

I'd either send them back or replace the dustcaps with something a little more substantial.. (if that is all that is wrong with them)

Slide some aeros in the box and see if the overheating stops, other than that I'm at a loss. I hope you get the issues worked out, and keep us posted. I think I may be getting my trunk fiberglassed and try to add one more 18

Like i said it is over 5 cubic feet, here is a look at my box again.

*IGNOE THE WIRING QUESITON IN THE BEGINNING*

note the size of the box.

I am seriously at a loss, i am so nervous that RE audio are going to handle this horribly and not replace my caps, or that if the installer did it wrong the store wont replace it or somthing.... its pretty nerve wracking, they where my birthday presants my GF bought for me i have epilepsy... i cant work and cant afford another set of thease, do you think that the motors or voice coils are cooked ?

the subwoofers still move freely just fine, do you think that the issue is isolated just to the dust caps ? i really have no idea what to do.

I hope the hole woofers themselfs arnt destroyed ill be completely ****ed.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

this sucks bigtime, my birthday is in three days too thease where supopsda be my friggin presants.

P.S what does this mean "Slide some aeros in the box"

and what should i do about my cracked cap so that i can keep using thease subwoofers, how do i know that they are safe to use ? i am really at a loss guys... i am sorry for being so new at this and im probably sure some of you are laughing thinking i deserve what i got, but i dont. Nobody does, and i hope some of you out there will help me.

But yeah the box is more like 10cu.

Who should be held responsible for this ? what if the installer wired the subwoofers up wrong ? the turminals are reversed on each side what if he did not notice this and wired up the coils wrong or they shook loose and where functioning off 1 voice coil or somthing ? would this be the installer shops fault ? how do i tell if the warrenty covered what happened how do i tell if RE audio was responsible ?

i am sorry for so many questions...

If they still move freely and play fine then they aren't blown.. (although I'd check the resistance with a DMM to make sure all coils are all there)

If all is good you can keep using them.. I'd either just go easy untill you get some new caps, or outright try to destroy them before I sent them back.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif

Do you guys think that the crack will get larger or blow apart ? this seems like bad advice i dont want to completely destroy them..... i cannot afford another pair of subs man.

would they move funny if some of the coils where gone ? i can go take a quick video of them on low volume but i doubt anything would be able to be taken from that...

This may sound stupid, but ive always wondered it since futureshop never has dealt with the type of amp with internal fuses, could the amp be powered up without the fuses inside ? sorry if that is a completely retarded question.. but with the power from the battery going into it, without fuses inside what would happen ? the reason i thought this is because the center letters in hifonics never really light up....

But yeah, i am going to futureshop on saturday or today to see the general manager and their installers, i am getting this resolved either way. This is a ****ing joke.

The caps could be too weak who knows, maybe that is why they where bubbling and cracking, i did not feel any other area of the sub as hot. I have a feeling it is due to installation error, but it could be manufacturer error aswell but i am getting this resolved regardless.

How much RMS can thease SX suposedly handle ? again, thease are only 2ohm 1700 RMS between 2 subwoofers, thats under like 900w RMS a peice.

Do you have the bass boost turned up? You were probably clipping them for too long and they couldn't take it.
Level and bass boost are at 12' oclock position where the manual for hifonics brutus says to have it. the ceiling level is adjusted propperly aswell as how low the subs will go aswell. Either way thease subwoofers are advertised as

"built for brutality" so i dont think that is a very worthy explination as to why they blew.

Nothing was adjusted or changed from when i had the MA audio XE subwoofers in there, and the subwoofer that did not have a cracked cone (the MA audio ones) never ever blew or cracked so are you going to say that MA audio subwoofers are more durrable than R-E audio ? i doubt it. I highly doubt it had anything to do with amplifier settings.

I don't doubt it had anything to do with amp settings. Why would a manual tell you to set the gain at 12 o clock without knowing anything else about what you have? Does it say to use bass boost on the amp too?
