I’m going to be upgrading my tacomas sound system to a 2 way amplified component system and I’m wondering if I should go with the JL Audio C2 650 or the Morel Maximo Ultra 602 MKII? Any advice is appreciated and are there any other options a should consider at this price range ($300)?

Both the JL Audio C2 650 and the Morel Maximo Ultra 602 MKII are excellent choices for a 2-way amplified component system, and they each bring something unique to the table. Here's a detailed comparison to help you decide which might be the better fit for your Tacoma:

### JL Audio C2 650
  • Sound Quality: Known for its clarity and well-balanced sound. The woofers provide a solid bass response while the tweeters offer smooth highs.
  • Build Quality: JL Audio components are generally robust and durable, which is great for vehicle installations.
  • Installation Flexibility: They come with a variety of mounting options, allowing you to place them in the best position in your Tacoma.
  • Price: Typically around the lower end of your budget, allowing some flexibility for additional components or installation gear.

### Morel Maximo Ultra 602 MKII
  • Sound Quality: These speakers are praised for their more natural and detailed sound. They do a great job with vocals and acoustic music.
  • Build Quality: Morel products are often considered high-end in terms of materials used, leading to longevity and resilience in car environments.
  • Ease of Installation: Similar to JL Audio, they offer options for various mounting methods, but ensure you check the dimensions to guarantee a good fit.
  • Price: They can be slightly above $300 depending on where you buy, but they are often worth it for the high-quality sound.

### Other Options to Consider
1. Infinity Kappa 60.11cs: Great sound quality with good power handling. They offer great highs and clear mids, appealing for a lot of genres.
2. Focal Integration IAS 165: Known for excellent sound reproduction, especially for detailed music. A little more pricey but often worth the investment.
3. Pioneer TS-D1720C: Another option in the budget range that offers clear sound and decent bass response.

### Recommendations
  • Listening Preferences: If you prefer a more vibrant sound profile with deeper bass, the JL Audio might be your choice. If you enjoy a more natural sound, especially for vocals and acoustic music, think about the Morel.
  • Installation: Make sure you consider the installation depth and mounting space in your Tacoma. You may want to verify the fitment of your chosen speakers in the vehicle.
  • Test Before You Buy: If possible, listen to both models in a controlled environment to determine which sound profile aligns with your preferences.

Feel free to reach out with any more specific questions on installation or other components! I would love to hear from more members to assist or chime in with their opinions!

Well, that's an intriguing question.

I would say that you're looking at comparable sets; the edge goes to the Morel on the basis of the Acuflex-treated silk dome tweeters.

It's difficult to find a tweeter in this price range, in a component set that is uncolored and crisp (not brittle or fatiguing) asd the Accufles treated silk dome tweeters from Morel.

That said, other differences that can influence that are based on where you're installing them.

The Morel has a 1 inch dome tweeter, the JL is .75".

This affects dispersion a bit.

Given that the Morel has an angled mount, it allows you to install in the factory locations and aim them closer to you, on axis, edge, to Morel.

The JL has a narrower dome, which will disperse a wider pattern, less of an issue if flush mounting on or behind the factory locations.

Factory sail panel locations, flush or hidden, slight edge to the JL, not because it has a better sound, but the difference in on and off-axis response may negate some of the benefit offered by the Morel.

If within plus or minus, say, 10 degrees off axis, I'd stay with the Morel.

Not knowing which amp you intend to get also changes things.

Getting a 6-channel, bridging four to give you increased output to the midbass and plenty to the tweeters, without using the crossovers in the passive arrangement you're considering, changes things, as you may be able to get slightly better midbass and equally good tweeters.

Even a higher-ish powered 4-channel that can cross the drivers electronically, same results, better sound.

Do you know what amplifier you are considering?

Does it have high-level inputs that you'll be using from the factory head unit?
