**** audio shops, you need to hit up a builder on here or local not audio shops, I'm surprised they didn't try to sell you a capacitor with the box.

They did. Told me I needed a 3F cap to run with the "combo".... Im like...no. lol

Considering if you replace the sub you'll need a new box anyway you're kind of up a creek. I'd say a good round 15" would outperform that kicker and IMO 900W is about all you want to run to a single sub if you have a history of pushing things til they blow up.

Also some of those Kenwood amps are decent. I'd take them over a lot of the "budget" stuff people in here have a ****** for.

W/ Regards to a custom box. I took a quick look at the spec sheet for the "recommended" box for this speaker, and it looks identical to the box its in. IE.., Same port design, speaker location. Without actually measuring, The dimensions on the spec sheet seems to be spot on with the box its in even if it was a "prefab".... (Eye balling it)

Out of curiosity, is there a way to safely check the "true" amp output w/ a volt/ohm meter while its installed in the car?

Kenwood amps are.... maybe better than some other budget stuff. They're well known for not doing their rated power. Probably not very efficient. I mean, if it came down to it, I'd still take AP or MB over Kenwood; they at least do rated.

And I'm sure the Kicker box is built to whatever specs Kicker recommends, but whether those specs are any good for a musical enclosure is debatable.

There's plenty of members on here that will build and ship you an enclosure to your door for $200 or less. Also, Skar audio has a deal going on with their subs/enclosures. Single 10" sub + custom built enclosure to your specs, finished and painted how you want, and shipped to your door, for $199. for a 12" it's $209, and for a 15" it's $249. Unbeatable deal there for a great sub and enclosure, especially considering how much it would cost to ship if you had to pay for that. You'll never get a better deal on that if you're looking for a new sub and enclosure, unless it's local; even then it'd probably be used and not as good.
