COLUMBIA CITY - A verbal altercation near Columbia City early Saturday morning resulted in the death of one man and another being charged with his murder, according to reports.
David Ralph Medico, 21, was charged with second-degree murder after allegedly fatally stabbing Douglas Bradley Stephen Armstrong, 22, early Saturday after the two had an argument at a party.
Medico was transported to the Columbia County Jail where he was being held without bond.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Medico and Armstrong were both at a party around 5:30 a.m. Witness statements to investigators revealed that the two had a verbal altercation and Medico left the party, which was taking place at 8670 SW State Road 47. He apparently began walking north along the state roadway.
Reports indicate several people, including Armstrong, left the residence a short time later in a vehicle to travel to a local convenience store. They apparently spotted Medico walking along the road, just south of Columbia City and stopped to talk with him. Armstrong and Medico apparently again began to speak to one another.
Columbia County Sheriff Bill Gootee said Medico had a beer bottle in his hand at the time, apparently broke it and used it to slash Armstrong across the throat before fleeing the scene. It is unclear if the two were arguing again when Medico assaulted Armstrong.
Medico was apprehended by Columbia County Deputy Jay Swisher within minutes after Armstrong's companions called 911.
Gootee said Saturday afternoon he was unsure of what started the altercation between the two men. He also said Medico has been charged with second-degree murder, a charge that could increase next week when a grand jury convenes to discuss the case.
Part of State Road 47 was closed until about noon as investigators processed the crime scene, according to reports.
alright now, the thing about this story is, the 2 WITNESSES are the other 2 guys that were going to jump this david guy at the party, so of course they are sticking to thier story. they have told others though that they went to find David and jump him, yet, he had something in store for them once they arrived, and only the passanger in the front jumped out to start this.
Yes, he is wrong for the murder, but he left the party not wanting any troubles and they followed him. To me, that should be some type of self-defense. They are actually talking about upgrading the charges to 1st Degree after the Grand Jury reviews the case. WTF????
What do you guys think
