8" Sub worth it?

I am strongly considering putting in a Boston Acoustics Pro Series 8" sub in the trunk. Eventually I will be getting Boston 6.5" 3ways for the front stage. Will the single 8" work well with the components, or would the 8" be too small? Keep in mind the sub will be in the trunk, and 8" is the largest I can go.

With all of the above in mind, what would be the minimum wattage I should send to the 8" sub to make it effective from the trunk? The manufacture gives it a very broad range, 50-750w. My choices are either 150w, 300w, 600w, leaning towards 300w. I'm not going for all out SPL, more SQ, but I wouldn't mind feeling it if I decided to crank up the volume.

Thanks.

ive never actually heard a setup with 8's in the trunk

the only time ive ever heard them is when they were used for mid bass to improve the staging

but im guessing that 8's in the trunk wouldnt do much

could be wrong though

Well, I shouldn't have mentioned SPL at all really as that is not what I'm trying to achieve. I was going to go with a 10" Alum. Eclipse, but there is only one spot I am willing to put a sub, and 8" is all that will fit.

I've read some reviews though, that say Boston's 8" can be a powerfull little sub if fed enough power. Unless I get a large number of replies that tell me it wouldn't be worth it, I'll probably give it a try anyhow, I can pick one up for a fairly good price. I'll probably feed it either 300w or 600w, gotta decide between the JBL 300.1 or 600.1.

well....i say try a 10 it may fit, you will be much happier with a 10 in the trunk, i use an 8, but it's glassed up front....so it makes some great sound up front....no bass in the trunk for me....alll front stage...

IF YOU USE THE 8 FEED IT ALOT OF POWER. IF YOU CAN TRY 2 8'SEHEHE BACK WHEN THOSE BOSTONS FIRST CAME OUT WE PUT ONE IN A JEEP CHEEROKEE WITH A RF 1000 ON IT AND I TELL YOU WHAT I WAS HELLA SHOCKED.

You should check out the elemental designs 8a. Its a little larger then ur average 8 though, and u may actully have some spl with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

THAT BIG!?!?!?!?!?(or is that small? )

Hey has anyone seen Sony's New(isnt it new?) pentagon sub? that thing must ****!

First time i eva saw a sub in a shape other than square or round. and whats the deal with the 'round solobarics'??

round solo's are the shiznit, i like em better sq wise than the squares....odd shaped woofers seem to be the hype with young kids now a days.....

I think sony needs to bring back the mobile ES line, they need to face the fact that the xplod line is killing them....
