slapping noise

Hi,

I got a rockford 12" punch hx2 in a 2 cubic foot ported box, and i have found that when i turn the bass and volume up considerably, there is a point where the sub begins to make a slapping noise, or i can hear the cone moving. I am guessing this is distortion, but it does this and it feels that the sub had more to in it. I am running it off a jbl 600.1. Any thoughts? Thanks.

oh yeah,

i don't know if this would make a difference, but the sub is in a f150 reg cab and i can only hear it when i get out of the car and recline the seat forward, but when sitting in the car, i can not hear it, probably because the bench seat is right on the sub.

you can only hear the "slap" when you're outside of the car? This makes me curious as to what's causing the noise. Are you 100% sure it's coming from the subwoofer itself?

i can only hear teh "slap" when i am outside w/ the seat reclined forward versus inside w/ the seat sorta muffling the sound. It actually is not really a slap, but i can just hear the cone moving. What does distortion sound like? Thanks for replying by the way.

the sub might be bottoming out
