8" Concealed sub and amp setup - Advice

where are you getting that price from b/c both the sub and amp that I posted, you can get from Best Buy for $240
Sorry, that was for the Rockford. Bestbuy here in Canada doesn't carry that sub, the only 8" kicker they have is the Kicker CompRT Slim 8" DVC 1ohm Subwoofer (40CWRT81) for $149 and and amp is $249 on its own. Like I mentioned, it's very difficult to find selection up here.

Didn't know they were still in business. They used to be low to middle of the road gear back in the day. No clue about now.
Good to know. I may stick with the JVC amp and get the shallow 1ohm woofer so that I don't have to worry about the mounting space as much. My enclosure may be a bit smaller than reccomended but I don't need a system to melt faces anyways. Just one that allows me to still enjoy music with the top off.

Im from the Toronto area as well and have bought several items from Sonic with out any issues. Very pleased with the transactions. Would not hesitate to buy from the again.

As far as shipping costs are concerned, get a mail box at us address inc for a small fee ($5) and have the items shipped there. Sonic has free shipping within the US. The place is like 45 secs from the Queenston/Lewiston boarder and it's less than 3 hour round trip from T.O. without traffic.

Stay away from anything Bestbuy or Future Shop has to offer. They used to sell junk and middle of road products. Now they just sell junk.

Take a look at Gibby's in St. Catherines. They have an online store, some free shipping and good selection of JL, Alpine, Clarion for the best prices i've found in Canada.

As far as the system is concerned, You can't go wrong with that Alpine. Personally, for an amp I'd save up some more money and grab a ppi 900.4. Use 2 channels to power your fronts and bridge the other 2 to the sub for a solid 450w@4ohms.

There is a big reason I don't want to put a lot of money into this. The amp can be easily taken when the soft top is on. I don't want to spend money on something that can be taken. I just need a cheap mono

I thought it's safe in Canada.. What about all those stories about people leaving their doors unlocked? Is it not like how I envisioned? Everyone smoking pot and singing kumbaya?

Most people don't leave their house doors unlocked unless they live in a rural area, but home break-ins aren't super common either. Jeeps are just a really easy target, especially if it's parked in the same place multiple times and people know it's there. I don't even lock my doors in the summer because I'd rather have somebody just open the door and take whatever they find rather than cut open my soft top

Sounds like you would be better off just buying a set of good headphones and taking them with you when you leave.

A thief will cut into your soft top to steal a cheapo amp just the same as they would if you had more costly gear. They don't know the difference until the damage is already done. The key to not having your stuff stolen is to not let anyone know it's there. Stealth install methods, no windshield sticks and not bumping within a couple of blocks of where you live or places you regularly visit is a good start.
