Hey everyone this is my first time posting on here. Do here what's going on, I was talking to my buddy the other day and he wants a nice system in his car. He has an eagle summit. I know it's a dumb car to put a system in. For the ones that don't know it's kinda like a tiny mini van. So he says he wants a 1000 watt rms sub system he also wants two new 4 inch and two new 6x9 to replace the stock speakers. We are looking at is a sealed box with one sub on each side and display the amp in the middle. So I want to find a nice sounding system so I can give him as much bang as I can. Also the head unit is staying in the car. So if anyone can help please do and thank you

to get what you want with 500 bucks Craigslist will be your friend its going to be real tough otherwise but I have done it so I know it can be done just keep your eyes out for deals

What part of Maine? I've got some good boxes and subs up here and some other odds and ends. If you are near Franklin County we could hook up this weekend and make something happen.

Precisely what speakers are in which stock location? Optimally I like to focus on ONE set of good components in the front instead of trying to fill every hole as cheaply as possible.

Also FYI a pretty sealed box with amp in the middle and actually getting a lot of bang per buck don't really go together. Think this monster in a large ported box for 275 cash picked up:

it can be done.... find a used zrx2000D (probably ebay, paid 140) and 2 used xfl 12's (on here 2 sumthing) 6x9 d series pioneers (not sure of exact model check my sig, ebay 80.00) grab some 4in from parts express.... those subs would be under powered on that amp but would still get LOUD!!! I'll do some checking for you later !!! I'm a budget builder!!!

cheapest build i can think of

Amazon.com: Hifonics BRX5000.5 Brutus Vehicle Multi-Channel Amplifier: Car Electronics should give you close to 1k rms for the sub and enough power for your speakers hard to beat for the price compared to buying two individual amps.

a used 1k rms 2 ohm DVC version of the type R sub in a ported box from craigslist. I would also consider looking at used 15 inch 2 ohm DVC subs in the classifieds section rather then a 12 if you want the most bass for your buck.

and coaxials for all the doors.

still gonna be hard to be in that budget Since you'll need an amp kit, line drivers since your keeping the head unit stock and we dont know if your head unit has enough RCA channels to work with. One thing you really cant skimp on is the subwoofer enclosure, you cant buy the cheapest one on ebay or amazon thinking it will sound good.

Ok so the head is after market I can't remember the brand but it has front and rear pre amp and subwoofer so I know the head will work and he got ripped off having it installed so he does want to spend more money on a new head unit. The box I'm going to custom build for him I have access to a 7000sq foot woodworking shop so I have all the stuff I need to make it. I was going to go with a sealed box cause it's all I have ever made and we both like the sound we get. With me I have a saturn vue in it is a 12 inch dual with 125 rms and a rockford fosgate 100 rms so it's been set to the amp output and it's in a sealed box and it makes everything shake in my car and his car isn't much big so that why we were going to go with a seal but if you all think ported would be better I can look into it. I guess I really never knew the different between ported and sealed. Hispls I'm down in brunswick. As far as c list I never have found that great of stuff in Maine plus he wants this started in like 2 weeks. So what I have ok with him so far is the 2 4 inch and the 2 6x9 I can get on ebay for a total of $85 and the are rockford fosgate. So after that I'm at $400 left for two subs an amp and wire kit.

Box for 50$ picked up or if you meet me somewhere @ I95... I drive into Massachusetts about once a week.

Got a few nice 15's that will go in it if you like and I have a nice little 2 channel amp I can do for really cheap.

Agreed that you won't find anything good on CL around here. If you actually want to get loud, hit me up for a good sub and help with specs for a proper ported box.

A noob with a Sig would be epic tho. He needs to get that from you lol.

See we are going to go with custom fit boxed for his car that will go all the way across the back. He has said he doesn't want 15s but if you can get me prices spec and pics I can see what he thinks

your gonna get a lot more low end output with ported but the design is important. Sealed has tighter bass with good transient response and a pretty wide bandwidth with slow roll offs. Typically for an Easy Sound Qualtiy oriented build you would go sealed. Ported can have close to the same SQ with proper design but it'll have a ton more output.

It'll be on your preference if you want it loud and car flexing or if you just want accurate bass to fill in the sound.

Personally i never liked the sound of sealed boxes, the bass is anemic and lacking compared to a good ported box but thats just my preference, yours may be different.

Do you want the speakers amped also or do you want to sink all of it to the sub stage?

also regarding space, 1 15 would take up a little bit less room cubic feet wise then 2 12s and provide almost the same amount of output the benefit is you only need to spend money on a single sub woofer vs buying two.

I'm guessing this is more going in the direction of a pair of the cheapest 12's available in a sealed box.

Something like this but with black frame since I don't think I have any of those old RE baskets left. 3-4 cube net 15"^2 port per cube (8" sono tube works nicely) tuned to 37hz and they sound amazing and get very loud. I assure you this will blow away any Chinese garbage in a sealed box. Price is 240 cash.

*EDIT* That is 12". I'm guessing you're not going to want to give up enough space to properly run single 15 or pair of 12's.

He is giving me as much space as I want. I think he really wants the two 12s cause how it would look to have two subs instead of one. So if ported is going to give over all better sound I'll start looking into design and building a ported box and how to tune it. Cause like I said I have always had sealed boxes

Download WinISD (free program) and look for tutorials on youtube on how to use the program. It uses the subwoofer's TS parameters(specs) to help you design the box and you can get a good idea of how the sub will sound from the graph it produces. You'll also get dimensions and cutout lengths needed. Make sure to look into bracing, sanding edges, 45 degree corners and kerfing.

with your budget, your only going to get two borderline junk 12s but they might be able to sound decent with a good enclosure.
