anyways... if you think i posted up too many pics in your thread just lemme know and they will be removed

but... great work, i cant wait to see completed pics
Looks great! And no, I don't care that you posted pics in this thread; we all enjoy pictures.

I should get the grill finished today as I got some glue from a friend for free last night at a party! That's a good thing as I have about $3 to my name right now haha. I was going to scrounge around today and try to find some change to buy it but I guess I'm all set now.

Thanks.

I got the amp cutout done and it's fully painted. The first two coats were looking rough but the third really made everything look decent. I'm only pissed about one thing -- joint lines. Everything was extremely flush and I sanded with 40, 80, 120, 150, and 400 grit sand paper. Then I put wood filler over all the edges and rounded corners and sanded it down with 150 then 600 grit. There were NO seams visible and I honestly forgot how the enclosure was laid out. I then did 3 coats of primer and I couldn't see anything so I thought I was good. Well, I was wrong and I can see the joint lines in a couple places. That is straight ridiculous and it makes no sense at all.

I still have to get the grill hardware in and I'll wait until the paint has fully cured before doing that. After that, I'll mount the amp and the subs and give it a few hours of listening and then I'll deliver it to my friend's house and install it for him.

Oh well, here are some updated pictures that are also on the first page but I'll put them here for the lazy crowd:

After three coats of hammered black paint:

Here is a close up of one of the joint lines that are visible. What did I do wrong that caused them to show up in the painting stage but not the priming stage?

the lines were always there... you just couldnt see them with the primer because it has no gloss... unlike the dark hammered paint which will show everything //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i like to get a little bit of body filler, put it over every seem i think will show, sand the shit out of it (up to 180), then prime with some good filler primer (then sand up to 320) then if you still have doubts wetsand it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

anyways, i think it looks great man

Maybe I should use a bondo like filler instead of the wood filler I've been using. Only two joint lines really showed up. One was on the back and one on bottom is also visible. Neither of them really matter as one will face the floor and another will face a wall. It still makes me mad though.

if you plan on painting it then yes... bondo works better imo

also, a flushbit for your router is your friend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I think it has more to do with end grain than a non-flush edge.

But looks good man. How far is your spacing on your cuts for the flare?

**** a flushbit! My ends were extremely flush and the end grain was sealed very well. It was the glue line that shows. Maybe I should seal the enclosure with a glue/water mixture after finely sanding everything down and then use bondo on the wood grain or on the entire thing? **** that sounds like a *****. haha

I used a 1" spacing between cuts (10 cuts total) and it gave about a 6" flare.

ive always used bondo on just the seams... if the glue shows then you didnt used enough primer... i prime, then carfully wetsand... takes time, but worth it in the end

also, try spacing the cuts 1/2" apart next time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You may also get other lines as time goes and the paint expands and contracts. Some joints sink in after a while.

What'd you use to apply the hammered metal? I'm guessing you used the liquid can, as the spray stuff sucks. I've used a foam brush, but it never seems to come out that smooth/glossy.
