2008 Tiburon Build - Two 12's

Hey ******* ****! I got it hooked up, I think I was a little worried that even with this setup that I was going to want something louder, but I'm thinking no way! This is insane haha I haven't had bass this loud in a vehicle of mine in almost 4 years since my last one was stolen and I think this might maybe be a little louder, it sure seems like it is but who knows.

Anyways, it's pounding so ******* hard, shaking my vision, flexing my windshield a lot, like it looks dangerous haha and my voltage even with this tiny 90 amp alt isn't dipping below around 12.2 volts at idle, this xs power battery is a beast, however the subs are smelling after a little play, it's not a burning smell but a weird smell and I hope it's okay. I set the gain with a -2db test tone and with a dmm and set the amp to 40.0 volts since this amp birthsheet says 1598 rms @ 1 ohm. Around 40 hz the subs are moving really far, like an inch and a half it looks, doesn't sound clipped at all to the ear but the smell and movement worries me, my old type-r's never moved quite that much with the same box and almost same amp, just the older slightly weaker version.

So setting the gain with a -2db test tone and a dmm was too much, reset it with a 0 db test tone, the subs aren't smelling anymore and I'm not worried. It was crazy though getting a glimpse and taste of it turned up like that though, when I set the gain to read 40 volts with a -2 db test tone, it equaled 47 volts with a 0db test tone which would be 2200 rms. So no wonder it was so loud and no wonder they were smelling, glad I changed it but it kinda made me wish I could actually be running 2200 rms right now safely but someday maybe. For now though, its awesome and I just wanna just keep driving lol

Thought I'd update this with some pics of it all finished

This is how low I'm riding in the back now, 90lb box, 75lb battery, two 20lb subs, 10lb amp, im doing a wheely haha I'm gonna have to lower the front

And this is how I ride around, the back left seat is up so a passenger can ride there and just remind people the back seats do work. Then the other seat I leave down just for any possible air that can pass through

With it like that I metered it today with a term lab. With the mic on the windshield by the dash and my windows down I peaked at 34hz at 141.5db.

With the windows up there were two peaks, one at 38hz and one at 56hz. I metered a 141.2db at 56hz with the windows up, but I never ride with the windows up, always got them down.

The first test tone sweep I played my amp put out 1024 watts which the guy was quite surprised at. Then my later scores it was putting out around 700 watts.

I didn't make this for numbers, it's for music and not competing but I thought I'd meter it just for fun to know. I can play my subs full volume the way I have it set for forever and they never start to smell. The show I was at yesterday, everybody had to turn their bass down after a while cuz their subs were smelling so I like that about mine, although their systems were way louder

you could have probably pulled a 142.5 - 143 if you soft clip it a bit.

Its really wierd that you meter the same with windows down and up. Usually In all the setup's Ive been in, windows halfway down or the opposite window down gets much louder.

If you ever rebuild i'd high suggest Birch over MDF. It'll make the difference between you needing to upgrade springs or not. Try sub up, port back or sub up, port up next time.

I know man, I kinda wish I wouldve just turned it up a few notches for a few seconds while playing the 34hz tone cuz I know i wouldn't have blown the subs but whatever, it's a safe 141.5db lol

And I didn't mention, the sealed score of 141.2db at 56hz was with the box moved forward a few inches on top of the back seats. It did I think a 140.8db with the back seat up. With the box moved and the windows down I actually did a 141.7db but I don't really care because I don't ride with the box like that.I

I actually never messed around with the windows halfway up or one window up, one down, but I like metering it with both windows all the way down because that's how I always ride, unless it's raining, or winter.

Id love to build a new box with same external dimensions with subs up and an 8" aero port aimed back or up but it would make mounting an amp difficult. I kinda wanna save up money for a RF T2500-1bdCP and I don't know if I could make it fit with the subs up. Also how much louder could it really be with a new box? I don't really feel like building another one

Time to update this thread, got my car alarm installed today, also a few weeks ago I got this

So excited! I've always wanted a beast Rockford amp, I don't have it hooked up yet because I don't want to damage my type-r's

Sitting next to my current little baby rockford for size comparison

Also last week I ordered two 12" SSA Xcon's, so really excited to hear how it sounds when all complete

This will be the loudest system I've ever owned, I already think my current system hits hard as **** as is so it should be crazy for me

Looks good man, those xcons will love that bigger amp, bet it sounds good. Great looking install as well.
Thanks a lot man!

I did the big three upgrade, first time I ever did this, my car used to start at 14.0 volts now it starts at 14.3v. At idle the voltage still will start dropping down to 12.2 on peaks after a while, but at least while driving 30mph the rpms being up keeps my voltage at 14.0.

Hope I did everything right, here's a bunch of pics of it

Looking at my alternator to find where to connect the positive

Here's where I put my 1/0 positive to

Here's where I grounded the battery, the bolt for the fuse box

Before I sanded the paint away

After I sanded the paint away

All connected

Then it was time for the battery negative to alternator negative. Decided to mount to this bolt here

Bolt unscrewed

Connected

Had a local shop do the crimping for me

Zip tied both the alternator wires

All finished

Will be upgrading this battery to an XS power D3400 real soon, thinking I won't need to replace this tiny stock 90 amp alt as long as I don't bump my music full tilt at idle after I hook up my T2500-1bdcp

Yes, sand off the rust/ corrosion unless you already did and I'm just seeing things. ( which is entirely possible)
I did sand it slightly after that pic was taken but I was in a hurry at the moment and could probably do better if I had something other than sand paper, I think I'll take a look at it again soon and try to sand it with a power tool, thanks!
