Mr. BIPS, let me point you in the right direction...

Sub(s): Sundown SA-12 [Sundown SA-12]

Sub and Speaker amp: [Hifonics Zeus ZXi60.4+1K 5-Channel]

Speakers: DD CS 6.5's all around, make mounting plates for 6.5's to fit in the rear [Digital Designs CS 6.5]

So you're looking at $200 shipped for the sub, $360 shipped for the amp, and about $175 per pair of speakers (call DD for prices). That's $735 for all the main equipment.

You'll also need wiring. I suggest you go with a 1/0ga wiring kit from Knukonceptz [Knukonceptz KCA 1/0ga Amp Installation Kit]. You will also want some extra power wire for the Big 3 Mod (search on google if you are unsure what that is), So just measure the lengths and buy a little more than what you measured here [Knukonceptz KCA 1/0ga Red]

You shouldn't need more than Big 3 and one run of 1/0ga for that kind of power in your car. To be safe, you can always add an extra battery.

Find a good box builder on this site to build you a proper enclosure. Ram Designs, Pro Rabbit, Bassman3, there are a ton of good choices here. I would imagine $250 for a custom box.

So another $60 for the install kit, let's just estimate 15 extra feet of 1/0ga for $30, and $250 for a box. Add that $340 to the previous total of $735 and you get $1075. Spend the rest of the money on the install. Do what you can first, like cut the appropriate lengths of wire, properly mount the sub and wire it in the box, etc. Whatever you feel comfortable doing will save you more money than you think. I don't see why the install should cost more than $1k. You'll be left with a $2k system that will eat that $2800 JL system for lunch!

my first post in this thread was talking about how we could build him a better system for less.....ur coming in here with the typical shop attitude an giving 2 thousand dollar estimates....**** for half that we can put together a system what will blow the one u suggested away

Thanks in advance to any and all willing to share their expertise to help me with my decision. Here's my situation:
Currently have a 2006 Acura TL with a stock stereo system (8" woofer, 2 - 6x9 speakers, 2 - 6.5" speakers in front doors, 2 tweeters). Looking to make an upgrade. Used to have 2 - JL Audio 12W3s back in the day with a 500/1 monoblock JL Audio Amp (with 2 - 5.25" door speakers and 2 - 5x7 rear speakers, all Infiniti brand). I'm looking for bass that is more crisp, clean, but can still pound.

I recently went shopping. I was quoted the following prices for the following two setups:

1.) JL Audio Setup (my preference) - ~$2,800

1 - 10W6 subwoofer (fiber glass custom box to fit in rear, left of trunk)

1 - Multi-channel JL Audio Amplifier (75x4 for speakers; 300x1 for subwoofer)

2 - 6.5" JL Audio circular speakers w tweeters for front (entry level, C-somethings??)

2 - 6x9 JL Audio rear speakers

1 - Not sure what you call this. Device to integrate all speakers / subwoofer into the existing

headunit. I have navigation system stock w car, so it's a touch screen. This device also

has an auxilary output to hook up an iPod or w/e.

Labor charges, wires, etc.

2.) Rockford Fosgate Setup - ~$1,700

1 - 10P2 or 10V2 subwoofer (cost is only about $100) w standard box, nothing special

1 - Rockford Fosgate Multichannel Amplifier for speakers & subwoofer

2 - MTX 6.5" speakers for front w tweeters

2 - MTX 6x9 rear speakers

1 - The device to integrate, as stated above

Labor charges, 4 gauge wiring, etc.

I think #2 is a crappy setup and #1 is over-priced. I'm debating buying the stuff online and strictly paying someone to install it, but my understanding is that there is a huge markup on the equipment and if you don't buy from them, they won't be as inclined to do as good of a job in terms of installation.

The fiberglass box was quoted at $400. They labor charge, which was not itemized, was $850 total, including the $400 for the box. Not sure what else was in there.

Their retail seems high. I found a W6 on JL Audio's site directly for about $120 less than they're charging in store.

The LC6 is a nice LOC but it doesn't do everything the Cleansweep does. You might not need the added functions of the Cleansweep though, it just depends on how your factory system was designed. It's definitely an area where you can save some money.

Personally, I don't think I would ever spend that much on labor, but I have been messing around with car audio since 1990. If you don't have any experience with installs or any friends that are competent and willing to help, your kind of stuck paying for it. If you really want JL I'd would suggest calling some other dealers, explain what you want and see if they are willing to work with you on the price or willing to install items that you didn't purchase from them. Just don't expect to get "internet" pricing from a brick and mortar store, it's probably not going to happen.

both set ups have quality equiptment. i think the 1st is way overpriced. i would look at memphis also. they have very good customer service, quality product and performs great.
