2 15's civic install. lots of pics!

Hate to say it, but I had 3 10" Diamonds on a Memphis 1000D in a GRAND MARQUIS trunk that I think was louder than your car probally. 3 GOOD 10s and the proper power can destroy that setup.
maybe I missed the part where you drove to his house and heard his sytem, but how did you measure SPL from a video?

and nate munson did a 169 with a single DD9510. whats your point? any install properly setup can get loud. its all a bout install. for me, its about SQ - thats just my oppinion.

I am louder than you. that's all that matters Req. I thought you knew.

and i'm louder than you, i can tell from here.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

But to the OP if going with a different model of subs is is possible to get louder with two 12's ported but than the 15's might be louder. How these guys on here can tell you that the 12's will be louder is wrong, unless they have the same car and did many test with the subs there mentioning. The only way to tell if you'll be louder with the 12's is to buy them and try for yourself.

yah thats what i figured.. i prolly end up trying out some 12's ported.. somethin around 250-300.. 3-4cubes total, any ideas on what can hit the lows?? still run 600rms at 2ohms tho..

I actually read all of these posts and cant believe all of the nonsense and bickering that come from people on this forum. First of all, dont tell him what would be 1db louder or what other setup would destroy his. It may be true that there are some issues with cancellation with the size of the box, but it may not. Like Req said, if you havent done the tests, then dont dictate.

To civic96, if youre happy, then dont change anything. You just set this up and I doubt you want to switch to different subs right away. Im impressed with your install. Its pretty clean, especially for somebody who is newer to car audio (assuming from age mostly). If you arent happy with the output, then maybe try some other things.. box placement, box size and shape, etc. If you are unhappy enough to go out and switch out your setup, then maybe make a new thread asking for suggestions for a couple ported 12s or 10s, and potentially a new amp (or new amps).

if i were you civic man, i would keep what i have for a few months and design a new box. maybe go with a slanted baffle for height reduction and a slot port tuned in the mid thirties. maybe around 2 cubes + displacements.

but again, its all about the install. the install being box design, sub placement, ect ect. but the equipment really is a marginal (at best) issue with this install. you might be able to use a few more watts as the m605 prolly does like 500w and with a sealed box the mechanical power handling is a little greater. and besides its always nice to have headroom with amplifiers just simply because having more power on tap is always better.

Very nice setup man you did a real good job on that install for not being too experienced. I love those subs, I have the same ones in a ported box in my blazer and they are extremely loud. But in your trunk, if you like memphis subs..I would suggest two M3 12's in a ported box with a memphis 1000d. I had that same exact set up in my ext cab s10 last year, and it hit a 142dB on the top left front window/windows up..and I even had a semi-blown sub at the time I didn't know about. Anyway, I sold that set up to my little cousin and helped him put it in his 2000 civic..and it's never been metered but even with his crappy xplod headunit it sounds really really good in that car. Either way I think you'd be happier with 2 12's in a ported box, but that's just me and my experiences.

I completly agree with this, he has a nice system and installed very well. My system in my car at his age looked like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif lol. I only mention about those subs from personally experence. I had them sealed in both the 12s and 15s in both a small car (neon) and a larger car (buick lesabre) and they peformed well, just lacked on the low end. For some reason, they perform lower better in large sealed boxes. I only mention a possible upgrade to the M3 or smaller more efficient subs that would make better use of the limited space in his trunk.

Im a firm believer, if your happy with your system, it doesnt matter what other people think, its not for there enjoyment, its for yours.....

the thing is that memphis recommends 3 cubes ported for each 15 and i cant exactly fit anything bigger in the trunk considering i would run into the same prob.. and due to the fact that im runnin bout 5.5 cubes, which right in the middle of the sealed requirements for the subs..

Try firing the subs into the vehicle and then building a baffle that seals off the rest of the trunk from front face of the enclosure. so subs firing forward and baffle from face that subs are on sealing off the rear of the trunk. You can mock it up with cardboard and duct tape and if it seems much louder just trace the cardboard onto some mdf and seal that trunk off. THsi fires the bass wave into the cab and doesnt let any pressure go rearward, as now you might be trapping the major wave bhind your enclosure. might be worth a try what do you guys think. You wont need to change subs or box.
