12" Sub for a bandpass box

hi, i'm looking for a good sounding sub for a bandpass box i bought alpine type S 500rms and it sounds weird (it sounds OK with some music) and not loud so i would like a nice sub below $200 range that can work for me i have 500 wrms amp @2ohm (alpine) any sugestions?

sub probably sounds bad because of the box.

does the sub frequency response has to play up to 400-500 Hz? since band pass always tend to lower the frequency response???
