1 Sub vs 2 Subs

Oh god, you make it to easy... You're*I had to do it. sorry. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But anyway, I'm sorry you feel I'm not allowed to have preferences.
You can have preference but you are trying to press your likes on others by saying bigger subs sound worse than smaller subs.

real world test a sa 10 sa 12 sa 15 in a dipole configuration with the same amp same sorce and set the volume at say 100db for all of them and I bet you couldnt tell which was which.

Realistically the only difference.in those subs is the ability to displace air. Which the 15 can displace more air at the same xmax measurement but since it doesnt have to move as far the electromechanical advantage of having more coil in the gap give the sub more control of the cone and thus a better sound. Thats a fact not opinion.

just like I bet a morel ultimo sounds better at 120db than whatever sub you have, prolly can put a peerless xxls 12 against your sub too.

You can .. But nobody wants to hear someone run around saying big subs can't sound clean etc ...

That's a myth .. Put a 18" Xcon against your woofer then tell me how musical that 12" is

It's called an opinion, and your rudeness has not changed it. Out of all the systems I've heard, I like 12s the most. Anything bigger than 12s sounds like crap.
If it was your opinion that beef doesn't come from cows it wouldn't make it true, it just makes you look ignorant. Please don't perpetuate myths here or myself and others will correct you. Considering the fact that winning SQ cars have used 18" Kicker SoloX and DD-Z, and that noted engineers and experts in the field have made completely contrary claims, all your "opinion" tells us is that you are an uninformed rookie who hasn't yet met anybody who knows how to build a proper box.

Really some of the worlds loudest subs can sound really good at moderate levels the warden for instance is quite musical but it can be brutal. Recone it with a spider pack designed for lest power and the sub will sound amazing.

Neo subs specifically are good with this since there motors are so strong voice coil inductance doesnt really matter the mms may as well be zero.

Build a proper box for any sub and they will sound good within their own range. Not all subs will be flat at 120db but they may be at 110db.

if I had the room in my hatch I would put an 18 in their but I cant fit a 5 cube sealed box let alone 6-7cubes ported

I've heard DB Drag trophy winning 18 systems and SQ trophy winning 18 systems....... GUESS WHAT, I still prefer 12s you derp!

I'm going with a single 12 after seeing the box dimensions needed for a 15.
For a 15" I need this-

Vented Volume 2.72 ft.³

Vented F3 30 Hz

This is all I need for a 12"-

Vented Volume 0.98 ft.³

Vented F3 36 Hz

I'm not trying to spend my savings on a more expensive box.
Woah. Those are some small *** box sizes. My 12" is in 3.17cf.

What you mean is that either you prefer the look of 12's, or that the systems you liked the sound of best were using 12's. I assure you the size of the driver is irrelevant to their ability to reproduce music

I Like my car that has two twelves but I also have a truck that has a single 12" IA DP, its a 1992 Toyota 4x4 extra cab so a 15" pretty much wasnt a option. In a proper enclosure with a good sub and the proper power, a single 12" can be pretty impressive. My single DP flexes the hell out of the cab and windows of my truck, I couldnt imagine having two of them, it hurts your ears with just one.

then just say you prefer 12s over 15s and call it a personal preference instead of spreading myths about bigger woofers having worse sound quality. Your just acting like an ignorant d-bag after this last comment. You've contributed no facts or scientific explanations or any viable counter arguements. Just peacefully get off the forum and enjoy your 12s by yourself. Thank you have a nice day!

That's what I said in the first post. Not my fault your ******* are prone to bunching

So I was dead set on getting 2 12" Dayton Ho's, but the cost is adding up, from needing a bigger box (more $$$), needing more wires/distro block (more $$$), and now I need a new battery (more $$$). And I'm way above budget, I had originally planned to keep everything under $1000, now I'm looking at between $1500-1600.
If I roll with one 12" Dayton Ho (if you have any better subs you recommend, feel free), or even one 15" sub, how big would the sound vary?

I'm not looking to have a competition build, just something I can listen to every day that will sound significantly better than OEM. I'm not trying to, as my friends put it, "have a vibrator as my backseat", but something where I can occasionally bump it.

What do you think, should I pursue two 12", or roll with one? How big of a difference will it be?

I don't want to get something, than hate it because of how much I spent on it.

Hey there, i've been installing for over a decade and have seen and heard it all bro. My opinion is to just buy one good woofer if your budget is in crunch mode. But either way by going to 2 woofers vs 1 woofer there is no way your costs on the box, wiring and distro block (wtf does a dist block have anything to do with how many subs you have?) should not change the price much, if at all. There are tons of good speakers out there and in my experience it's not all about what you buy, it's how you put it together. Some of the best systems i've heard were relatively cheap equipment that just happened to be put together by an installer that was very good.

The most important aspect of your bass is non other than your box. If the box is done wrong it is a deal breaker. I'll put it to you this way, a 50.00 sub in a good box will out perform a 1000.00 sub in a bad box. It's all relative. If you were me i would upgrade my quality of woofer and just stick with one and buy whatever is the biggest size you can reasonably fit. One of my systems was a Us Amps 400X on 1 15'' RE MX and it did a 153 on the dash in a rodeo.

If you need any further guidance or if it seems like you may be getting jacked around on prices feel free to send me a message and i can tell you more precisely what everything should run.
