1 powerful sub + 8 unreliable screws = this

sucks man, hope you get everything worked out. My first box I did I forgot to pre-drill the holes and the bolts(I used lag bolts) weren't far enough outward to grip a lot of wood, was to close to the actual cut out. oh well, you live and learn right?

To me it doesn't look like the screws were the problem, appears that the cutout was a little too big and the screws didn't grab solid wood. Those holes are way too close to the edge (where they slipped and ripped the mdf) to have been the correct fit.

You all beat me to it.... lol

these are what u need

these screws have a coarsed thread. Urs where fine thread.

if the cut-out is to big try and angle the screw outward. Do not use fine thread screws use corase screws. U can pre-drill the holes, but I would just let the screw start the hole and bite the wood good. If u hear that whine or crying sound then u have a good gripe.
You can also split the wood this way if the screw doesn't bite into enough wood or the distance between the cutout and screw hole is too small. Just predrill, its solves alot of problems.

I've NEVER had a problem with screws slipping when i predrill, even when i've taken out and put back in the screws multiple times.

I have never split MDF with an screw. With an nail gun at high PSI...now that is a different story. But if u hear the screw wine u kno u have good grip. I mean that what was told to me my wood bucther that, that i have been working for well over 4 years. But he knows nothing...?

P.s. T nuts are not a bad idea either .

I've split wood without predrilling before, but that was when i was attaching two boards together.

I predrill screws holes just to be safe. Also, if you have an existing hole to work with there is less of a chance of you pushing too hard, making the drill go sideways, and putting a nice hole in your sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok on that aspect u are right. It does take more skill. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif :) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
