1 powerful sub + 8 unreliable screws = this

Aww hell, get gorilla glue, glue it on there, then get 1" bolts and have 24 of them around the sub, then take reinforced metal cut into a ring, and bolt that on to the sub in 8 diffrent places aroun the sub with reinforced metal bars running out all the way around the sub bolted on outside in several locations welded onto another larger ring that is bolted onto the box.

That is sur to hold it on there

jesus............................ i'm sorry but that is a funny pic, yeah looks like the hole is 2 big, and whoever said they prefer double baffle for heavy duty subs is a good idea, i had my box double baffled for my 12" xxx

To me it doesn't look like the screws were the problem, appears that the cutout was a little too big and the screws didn't grab solid wood. Those holes are way too close to the edge (where they slipped and ripped the mdf) to have been the correct fit.
I noticed that as well.

Drop the sub in, mark the screw holes, take the sub out and make sure there is enough wood for the screw to grab into without spliting.

Yup, i always pre-drill...to make sure of that...and to make sure i don't have to push THAT hard when I'm drilling in a sub, could lead to a fatal slippage!

The red circle is one of the screws, the blue circle is half a screw hole, where the screw tried to grip the wood but didn't have enough to "bite" into.

There's your problem, moreso than any screws themselves.

your half right frost:

the cut was a "decent" if not perfect cut but the screw did not grip too well.

god i wish i had a router, would have made things a hell of a lot easier for me.

finished with the mount ring, went to my trunk, placed it under the sub, tried to move it around, it slide a tiny but, like make a millimeter or two but it should do a better job than before, Gonna use longer screws that can grab better. I just finished caulking the ring front and back and tomorrow i'll set it on the box.

In that last pic, it appears as though you can see a screw (top right of sub), but no corresponding screwhole in the board. I'd rack this one up to shoddy craftsmanship and learning experience.
you can see a chip right on the edge of the cutout like it just barely nicked the wood. is that rope/wire whatever it is, the only thing holding that box? was it maybe that the box was sliding around and the momentum of the sub moving that ripped it out of the box? one setup that i had i only had 3-1" screws holding in the subs and never had a problem like that...

that does **** though!

if the cut-out is to big try and angle the screw outward. Do not use fine thread screws use corase screws. U can pre-drill the holes, but I would just let the screw start the hole and bite the wood good. If u hear that whine or crying sound then u have a good gripe.

yeah thats what i used to hold the sub down. the threads were too small and close apart. tomorrow i shall right my wrong's :p
