xxx15 install... BIG problems

Well I thought i had the install done when i realized a few things where not right, largely in fact to my install partner who i think is not on the right track...

1.The hifonics BX1500 did not even power UP

2. The ground was sparking... used 4 gauge

3. sparks came from the battery when i first put in the battery wire connection.

4. 2 gauge wire was too thick to fit so i cut some off and just forced it in there

5. The xxx is d2 so i went + to + on sub then + from sub to Outer + on the amp ( vica-versa)... SO i had this con figuration on the amp terminals [(+) -, + (-)]

( ) wire from amp.

looks right no me.....

My solutions:

1. My install partner hooked the REM 18 gauge wire to REM wire on the alpine deck. I Think that the REM from the AMP should go to the FUSE BOX so it can power.

2. the ground was in at an angle and not on a flat surface, thuis the sparking

3. dunno bout this one

4. It shoudl be fine not really the issue

5. That should be right

whats my problem here, why no power to the amp, and why is the gorund sparking...

i would try hot wiring the amp to make sure it works, COuld be the amp or wiring, maybe not a good neough ground, also your remote may not be working right

Try sticking a wire from the remote port directly to the +, that will hot wir eit so you dont need the cdplayer for itto turn on.

5. Taht should be right
1. i don't know what ur talking about

2.the ground shouldn't be sparking...always hook up positive wire from batt to amp first...then ground to amp

3.iirc, that is normal

4. no problem

5.i'm confused

:edit: use a DMM and test the voltage at the ground...should be either 0 or 12 volts

then test the pos...should be 12 v

then test the remote...should be around 12 volts

Responses to your solutions:

1) Ideally it will be the head unit that tells the amp when to activate hence there being a remote accessory activation output on your head unit to begin with.

2) As long as the connection is tight as well as being attached to a place that provides good ground I don't see this particular being a problem.

3) There are things in your vehicle outside of your head unit that have a constant draw if the battery is hooked up such as the OEM clock, certain functions in the engine management 'puter, etc that will create a spark when you reconnect the battery.

4) You're right - this isn't a big issue.

5) I have no idea what exactly your diagram means....not too certain what you've done there.

I'm pretty sure you have the sub wired to the amp wrong. It's a mono amp with 2 outputs, you need to use one set of the outputs not a + off one and a - off the other.

The reason it has 2 outputs it make make wiring multiple usb easyier.

If the outputs are wired in parallel internally what will it matter which connections he uses as it is sourced from the same place?
