Xmax on subs more=better? or less=better?

(8") and did a 138.4 on the dash of my truck with the windows up at 50hz. this was in a 1cuft tuned to 35 or so. next weekend i will be building a "fart box", about .6cuft tuned to 40-45hz.

that 1508 only has 9-10mm one way at the most where the w7 i think has 19mm one way. now dont get me wrong, the w7 sounded really good but iam done with sounding good in my truck for now. iam gonna try my best to get into the 140's even if i have to catch that 1508 on fire to do so.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
That peak that you are seeing on the meter with the 1508 is what the w7 is designed not to do.

Put them both in a sealed box, play a bass race oriented song with a 30 second average.

Then put them in a ported box tuned to 28-30Hz and play yet another song...

I'll put a beer on the w7. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Linear coil travel is Xmag, not Xmax.
A driver can be either suspension limited or motor limited.

To call Xmax one or the other is wrong. It is the lesser of the two, whichever happens first.

a w7 hands down in a sealed box vs a dd driver. and the w7 will still have a flatter responce in a ported as well, but iam going for as "loud" as i can with the truck. now dont get me wrong, in my olds i gave a 10w7 that is now running of a fusion nv2500 in a ported box. i have about 1/3 of the rear deck cut out, i built an mdf loading wall along the back of the rear seat and have the sub about 6" from it with it ported to the cabin. it is quite loud and sounds excellent.

i was just comparing the "get loud" factor betwen the 2.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

u guys make me lol.
how do you guys test ur tunning when building a car? you can build the box to the T for a certain frequency but it can and more than likly will change when placed in the car. to test ur enclosure tunning frequency it will be the tone with the LEAST amout of cone movement. if you drop below this ur sub will be acting if it was playing freeair and have huge excursion. now when you burp at ur peak frequency(cabin) you CAN hit xmax but it happens when way overpowering a subwoofer.

scoobydoo; actually it take the cone area of 3 10s to get close to the cone area of a single 15".
two 10's is almost the cone area of a single 15, numb nuts. And the frequency the enclosure is tuned at changes by tiny amounts based on it's environment. The system as a whole's resonant frequency and loudest note is what may change and usually does when put into an environment.

if xmax is soo important then how come the re xxx isnt louder than a MT? the xxx has bout 2x the excursion if not more.
lakota; i doubt it, would just snap and catch on fire, lol.

one of the main points of a ported box is to reduce cone movement while creating more output.
Nobody said xmax makes a sub louder than another sub. Guess how much better an XXX sounds than an MT...

tunning a 8" sub to 28hz will limits its output(dbs) by alot...
Whatever you say, numb nuts.

i wouldnt know what a xxx or mt sound like cause i sell them, lol

it's about 2.5 10" subs = the cone area of a 15" depending on the 10" cause they very in size by a 1", so give or take.

um that is why everyone in the lanes is tuned in the high 20,blahhh.

It's known as musical output...

Not something that your gagging 18 billion watts to in a box tuned to 62Hz to get an amazing 6.9dB peak...

Everything I said I specifically said, with music. Tone blasts do not matter. You listen, to music. You don't want to have a HUGE peak out of a very highly tuned enclosure...it's not pleasing to the ears at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

correct on sound but he is talking #'s and he said he is going to build a "FART BOX" for it this weekend.

i'm sorry i'm a basshead and 2 out of my 3 veichles are tuned to above 40hz.
