Xmax on subs more=better? or less=better?

Maximum peak linear excursion of driver, in meters. "Short for Maximum Linear Excursion. Speaker output becomes non-linear when the voice coil begins to leave the magnetic gap. Although suspensions can create non-linearity in output, the point at which the number of turns in the gap (see BL) begins to decrease is when distortion starts to increase.
Thanks for posting, but this isn't what I was referring to. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

in a ported enclosure the sub will never reach xmax unless you play below tunning. the only thing you have to calculate when designing a ported enclosure is port area.

most spl subs have a xmax under 20mm. look at some of DD's subs with only 8-9mm of xmax or a old cv stroker of 11mm dumax tested.

also wrong....

Pics I posted above are on higher bass frequencies:fyi:

You are a wealth of false information in this thread. Why do you keep talking?

lmfao.. i remember the king of the hill days.. RE is still pushing it.. more so what we should be talking about its finding higher temp glues and more affective ways to lower distortion and new materials that allow lighter and stronger cones ...

speaking i see a silver wire coil full range.. happpens to be slightly above 1400$ per pair,lol...

if you do a search this has been discussed several times..

u guys make me lol.

how do you guys test ur tunning when building a car? you can build the box to the T for a certain frequency but it can and more than likly will change when placed in the car. to test ur enclosure tunning frequency it will be the tone with the LEAST amout of cone movement. if you drop below this ur sub will be acting if it was playing freeair and have huge excursion. now when you burp at ur peak frequency(cabin) you CAN hit xmax but it happens when way overpowering a subwoofer.

scoobydoo; actually it take the cone area of 3 10s to get close to the cone area of a single 15".

if xmax is soo important then how come the re xxx isnt louder than a MT? the xxx has bout 2x the excursion if not more.

lakota; i doubt it, would just snap and catch on fire, lol.

one of the main points of a ported box is to reduce cone movement while creating more output.
