working out?

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif I love these threads....just so funny to read the myths and misinformation you guy's talk about....too many **** body building magazines!
Agreed.

That's why I take my 12 years in the gym and six years of education in the field and just shut the **** up on this board.

how many of you guys work out on a regular basis?i got a gym membership in early January and have been going consistently 4 days a week.

i've seen a dramatic improvement in just about everything (only work upper body, have no real need for lower body...) except my abs. to combat this, last week i started a 200+ crunch a day routine. anyone have any other options for developing abs?
You're going at this the wrong way. Your body is set up where every muscle group complements another. Basically, your whole body works together to give you what you want. Because of this, you need to work out the foundation of what you WANT to get more of said results. What that means is, to get a strong upper body, you NEED a strong lower body. That is unless you want to look like a gorilla on stilts.

Either way, you should stop lifting so much and begin what is called cutting. Basically, this is the dieting stage where you are going to want to remove as much excess body fat as possible. After that, you can begin bulking which is just taking in a large amount of calories and just trying to gain mass. The reason being, if you want strong abs, that's fine, but your larger abs are just going to push out the fat that's already down there making you look larger.

The forum expert, illz_faded isn't around much, but you can sometimes catch him on AIM. Or you might want to try tapout, that guy is ****ing monstrous. Phat took from dave (illz), so he'd be able to help ya out as well.

Also, stay away from those shitty AB machines that are all over TV. Why pay money for something that does ONE muscle group when you can pay less for a Gold's Gym membership is beyond me.

Your going to end up looking really wierd. I hate when guys only work upper body, then they get really big in the chest/arm area, then you look at their legs thinking they are going to be huge, yet they have bird legs.

I workout every day for football except saturday and sunday.

I have seen the benefits also. Bench max went from 225 to 290 this year alone since football ended, and my squat went from 315 to 425.

Definitely start adding crunches, stiff leg deadlifts, deadlifts, and some leg curls/extensions at the very least. Lunges, calf raises and other leg exercises and you should round out very well. Chicken legs look silly; are you trying to be like Mr. Incredible?

I prefer to do legs first thing in the week as the large muscle groups tend to stimulate more growth hormone. First legs, then back, then chest, then shoulders, then arms, with an extra set of calves on Thursday. Take a week off every six weeks or so and be sure to throw in lots of cardio. When you do crunches, concentrate on form and intensity instead of sheer volume. Three sets of 20 good, intense crunches (tense those abs HARD) will do you better than 200 quick, shitty crunches.

Make yourself an all-around strength training regimen and your bench will go up. But why worry about how much you can bench? It has little to do with how good you will look, and let's face it, that's what you're after isn't it?

This is assuming he is already bulky/stocky.....if he is already somewhat toned and looking to build mass of course go for the bulk first....also what many people don't know is that muscle acts like a catalyst when burning fat....meaning the more muscle you have the quicker you burn fat off...so if you bulk for lets say a 12 week cycle on a nice bulking diet....cutting would simply go a little smoother...and not to mention all the muscle you've just built up behind the cut would look great.....anyways...try some things called "Shock Methods" as well...to experience even more growth....some examples that are common are super-sets...drop-sets...and static contraction...I'm too lazy to go into detail about each one....but if you want to learn more....go to.... abcbodybuilding.com and read up on them....I gained quite a bit of knowledge from the site myself regarding "Shock Methods"....also they have some very nice lift programs...like a 13 week cutting workout...12 week bulking workout....8 weeks to bigger chest...etc....great site....but you have to set goals for yourself....short term and long term...it's pointless IMO to go to the gym 4-5 days a week...do some bench press...squats...curls and call it a week....

Why don't you share and inform people then instead of boasting how knowledgable you are....that's ignorant as all hell....I came to this site only knowing a slight bit about car audio now I have a decent general knowledge thanks to the select few on this board that took the time to help me...thats what boards are for...to inform the misinformed and help people...

For the exact same reason why I rarely post anything useful on this website concerning mobile electronics.

People don't give a shit, people don't care, people don't appreciate anything. Not worth my time.

I visit other message boards - you can find me there. I moderate here, that's about it. Once you've been here for three or four years it all just seems like such a waste of time when you look back on it. Useless Administration, a now pathetic member base, and so on.

I'm fully aware that message boards are for helping others - been there, done that. I learned (and am still learning) and shared what I know. Three years ago you'd get a "Thank you for your advice" ... today, you're lucky to a "**** you man, **** a dick you piece of shit. I have my own opinion already before asking this question and I know it's right so **** off."

Dumbbell or barbell? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Well I've yet to experience that...although I do know it's unfortunately out there...it is childish to ask for opinions/advice and throw it back in somebody's face after they took the time to give it to you...once I've been on the boards for awhile maybe I'll get sick of it too....who knows...

wow great info guys thanks! and you are right, i'm not even to the cutting stage. i still need to bulk up more before i can even start cutting.

as for not working out my legs/lower body, my legs are already pretty big and pretty defined already. they always have been for some reason. i played hockey for about 6 years, and goalie for 4 of them. i was constantly squating, dropping to my knees, sliding, etc with 40+ lbs of equipment for hours every week.

i came up with a 4-day/week routine that ill do for 8 weeks, which is until i go to college. Texas A&M (where i'm going) has an amazing rec center and i'll change up my workout when i get there.
