Wierd Problem

I just installed a new kicker kx 400.1 amp with a amp kit from rockford with 4 gage wire. I used there rca cables and installed connectors throughout. The problem I am having is every once in awhile my sub will not work. I tested the amp for power and everything seems fine there, it is not going into protection mode. I have 3 led lights on the amp power= green, red= protection, and there is a red led on top that lights up the logo. When all is working fine the green light on the front and the logo light on top are light up but when the problem starts the light on top goes out and the green led stays the same. If I unplug both rca cables from the amp the logo light goes back on then slowly insert 1 of them and sorta twist it at the same time it will kick on and then I can plug in the other and they work fine until the next time they go out. I have tryed a different pair on rca cables and it did the same thing. Any help would be great . Thanks

Actually t is even easier then I thought to get it to work again. All I have to do is remove both sides of the rca cables and then the logo light on top comes on, plug them right back in and the sub works fine. As soon as I turn off the power to the vechical it won't come back on. This is very weird.

I guess to sum it up almost everytime I shut off my car I have to start it back up turn the deck on and play it go around to the amp unplug the rca cables and plug them right back in and everything works fine. Otherwise the sum will not turn on but everything else is fine. Anyone have any iseas?

What I don't understand is what would be wrong with it? Why would it work if I unplug the rca and plug then back in? I am clueless. I am going to test the voltage at the remote turn on wire and see what I get wen it won't turn on.

you might have a bad altenator.

does the amp get really hot? does it have a heat sink(spl?)?

are the wires going from the amp to the sub big enough. is the wire from the battery to the amp big enough. check if its properly grounded to the frame. the amp might be too powerful for the subs. check the cabels in the back of your head unit. lol make sure black touches black and red touches red too.

....i doubt thats the case but subs will lock up if you have too much power going to 'em.

oh yeah just my openion by the way but kicker sucks nuts. i got 2 12''s and they blew the second i put em in so i was pissed.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/censored.gif.f9ad8e7c6db58c5530c5a0a20a3b5baf.gif

The amp does not seem to get hot at all. As a matter of fact I have let it sit all night go to work in the morning and I won't have any sound from the sub. I used speaker wire that came in the amp kit from rockford I think they are 18 gauge. The wire from the battery is 4 gauge. The amp is rated at 200rms and the sub calls for 115-225 rms. The rca cables are directional cables that came with the kit and they are going the right way and connected the right way. The sub and amp work fine for hours if I don't turn them off but once I turn them off I need to unplug the rca cables to get them to turn back on. I would think if it was a heat issue it would do it while I was playing it. I don't have any noise thru the speaker or anything. I would never no there was a problem until I turn them off and get in at a later time and they won't come on until I unplug the rca cables and plug them back in then they work perfect again till the next time they are shut off. It is a wierd one let me tell ya. I checked all my connections and everything seems fine. The 1 wire I left disconnected is the mute wire and I don't think that would have anything to do with it. When I get home tonight I am going to check the voltage and try a different amp.
