Hello, I have two old school alpine CDA 9812RR and CDA 9812RB. They open at first but then dashes appear on the screen. All the buttons generate sound (beep) but the radios are doing nothing. Any ideas? I tried them on different vehicles I checked the fuses but still the same. Thanks in advance!

Hello. The Alpine single din has no dvd to this and possibly not needed was parking brake bypass. Different colors for alpine unit. At first this may have been the thought, but upon second look of the problem, not the parking brake wire to connect to a black ground wire. This connection btw activates the parking brake switch to turn it off, so that the user don't use the DVD while in motion. So this was not the issue. The only other thing I can come up with then is, is the antenna connected. The wires to the radio, are they the standard #18 wiring gauge? If you use a bigger wire it may affect it in a negative way. So wrong wiring used but on the same ISO connector. Thirdly, since you tried it on different cars, then 14.2 volts were at least going through it. Just wrong wiring on the connections. Check to see if they have other wiring to the Alpine. #18 wiring gauge is the standard wiring gauge number. Fourthly, does your car have a steering wheel control? A module is connected to the old wiring harness if there is a steering wheel control. Don't add it back to the new harness.

First the answer above is a bot. Disregard everything that it says.
Second, there is a reset button on the face of the headunit that you have to press with a pen. It’s about a quarter of an inch below the word “Media X Pander”.

I know I have tried to reset it and nothing. Also if I press the power button for 10-15 seconds the head units shows the demo mode but when I press any button the dashes appear again on the screen

Do the tuners work OK? Will the unit load/unload a CD? My first guess is the microswitch that tells the unit there's a disc inside isn't working right. The RR & RBs tell me they're not US market radios, though I don't see that making a difference.

I'd give Alpine a call/email. I'm not sure if they still do their own in house repairs. If they don't, I'm sure they have authorized service centers.

Good luck.

No the radios are not working at all. They open but even the cooling fan is not working and then they are doing nothing, just showing these dashes
