That's what u have when a dictator (pope) gives a demand or declaration
the pope isnt a dictator..

Hypothetical situation: The pope declares that something is unholy and should not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES bw said or done. What happens from there? The Catholics follow that what he says...

Historical situation (not comparing the two): Hitler declares that anyone of Jewish descent should be killed. What happens from there? His followers do as he says.

Not saying the two are the same, but in both situations, you have someone that has an enormous say and what he says can force people to change their behavior based upon his own personal feelings.

its a poor analogy for so many reasons.

the pope isnt a dictator.

You guys know what they do with the cars?

Their engines are drained of oil, filled with sodium silicate, and ran wide open til they die. Then, they're crushed.

This is what I see happening

1) Used car prices getting out of hand due to the shortage of them (cause they're crushed now)

2) Prices of used parts getting out of hand due to shortage, again.

3) People getting even further into debt because they bought a car they can't afford.

Good job, Democrats.

the "cash for clunkers" sounds like a pretty good idea of stimulus to me. However i'd like to see it implemented in other ways that stimulate the economy more directly. Most of the money spent on cars ends up tied up in banks for a long time. Figure out a way to give incentives to those shopping for food, or smaller privately owned businesses. That money get's directly pocketed and emptied back into the economy.

Off topic, but somehow made me think of this: i came across an interesting program the other day about the economic effects of the ford motor company back in the 1920's. Ford's assembly lines required unheard of hard work and thus caused ford to double his wages to an amazing 5$ a day. This spured MASSIVE amounts of immigration so much that ford had his own school for teaching english.
