Ok ive never posted but ive been lurking and learning for a while. I just bought a 200 amp alt and im going to upgrade the big 3 when i install the alt.

My question is this, the battery terminals i want to use have one zero gauge and two four gauge hookups. I already have zero gauge going to the trunk so can i just use two 4 gauge runs from the alt to the battery? Or is it better to just have one run of zero gauge? Since i dont have ground running to the trunk all the ground wires will be upgraded to 0 gauge.

I just got my 8454 in the mail today and was hoping someone could answer this question.

Coming off the deck is a cord connected to a little box, on the side it says not to locate it near power or RCA's and to be sure to unhook the deck from power before removing it. Ive never seen this on a deck before, but the last eclipse i bought was a 5303 in oh 1998 or something. What is it and whats it for?

Its the power supply for the LCD display.....keeping it away from the unit removes the chance of noise....

Ok thanks for the responce. I have one more question now that ive installed the deck.

Is there any sub control in pro mode? When im in normal mode i have 'non fading' control but when i switch into pro mode i lose the function. I gain bass and treble controls but lose the sub out. The manual makes it sound like i should still have the option but i cant seem to find it.

The only thing which will let you directly control the sub channel would be the negative gain in the time alignment. If you ever need to mute the sub, you can set those gains to negative infinity, then store that on one of your 5 sound profiles.

Let me know what you think of the upgrade. I am still running a 5303 from back then as well. Gotta say it has been a solid unit.

Thats one of the cons of the deck imo, isnt as easy to access. You can still adjust it by going back inot regular then going back.

Thanks for the replies. Once i get this HO alt installed i can put my sub amp in and use the remote bass controll on it for the little extra kick when i want it anyways.

As for comparing the old 5303 i really cant say much, except i really like both decks. The 5303 was the deck in my first system, It was a long time ago but i remember that set up (eclipse seperates, subs and PG MS series amp) as sounding awesome. Its now several years and several sub par systems later and im still trying to build a system that rivals that one (at least in my own head). Hopefully when what im currently in the middle of building is done it will meet or exceed my expectations.

I picked up the 8454 NIB from ebay for $329 shipped, if your willing to go that route id say go ahead and upgrade from the 5303. I dont remember enough about the 5303 and havent even begun to figure out the immence options on the 8454 to give a better comparison.
