I know a new one might be out of your price range, but maybe a used one? I own a Mazda3 Hatch an couldn't be happier.. I've had it for exactly a year now and upgraded from my 2002 Civic SI.. The two don't even compare.. The Civic got a little better mileage, but it was so boring to drive, and completely gutless.. I think the Mazda3 is the best car out there in it's price range.. The interior is great, 160hp, stock 17" wheels, and i think it's one of the best looking cars on the road.. I checked into all cars in it's class, from the Golf (I've owned many in the past), to the Matrix (just couldn't get my head around it's fuglyness), to the Imprezza (didn't like the interior).. Since my past experience with Honda's ruled out the Civic, and I don't buy domestics, this left the either the Golf or the Mazda3.. After taking the two for a test drive, the Mazda3 won hands down.. Also, it's built in Japan (unlike the Mazda6) and is just a blast to drive.. Best car I have ever owned.. They can be had used for what you're looking at paying for a new Yaris and they aren't even in the same league.. Just something else for you to think about.. Ask anyone that owns one.. Very highly recommended..

My stepmom has had her '88 626 since new and it still drives great after all these years.. She says she'll never sell it.. Mileage, I get about 32mpg with about 75% hwy driving, and I've heard guys getting up to as much as 36mpg mixed city/hwy.. My Civic was a little better, but this car is so much more fun to drive that I really don't mind.. It handles great and really loves the twisties.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif Oh, and it doesn't have a timing belt to change every 60,000 miles either, it uses a timing chain.. 4 wheel discs, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, tipronic automatic (if auto's your thing), and a ton of other things that you can't even get in the Civic.. I have no clue about the Yaris since I would never be interested in a car that small, but it's a Toyota, so you know it's gonna be solid..

I say if you are even considering a new ride, go take a 3 for a test drive and you'll see what I'm talking about.. It's a lot of car for the money and I know I couldn't be happier with mine.. I drive a ton (40,000 miles/yr), and I'm glad I get to do it in my 3.. Whatever you do, just make sure you get something you're gonna be happy with..

Wow, what a salesman.. I swear I don't work for Mazda, I'm just really happy with their product.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You must not have the 2.3L Duratec eng then for that kind of miles. I have that in my car(2006 Ford Focus ST) and know they put them in best package for the mazda3. I only get like 21 city and about 29 highway and that is a mix, but to be honest I think it is more highway than anything, plus I am not ruff on it anymore, lol! If you do have the 2.3, please tell me how you are getting that kind of miles on it, would love to know so I can test those waters and save some money. Also I enjoyed the Mazda3 as well when I test drove it.(Was the sedan 2.3l) Just for the rebates I got on my Ford and the lower asking price, I couldnt beat the Ford. The only thing I like better about the Mazda is the back end and the interior of it. Nice car overall though.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Sorry for recommending that Aveo Faulkton. I didnt relize that was a daewoo product. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

For a commuter car I would much rather have one of these.
http://www.chevrolet.com/cobalt/

Have you test drove any of these?

I know I have and was one of the worst riding and most uncomfortable cars I have been in. Matter of fact I felt like I had more room in my 2002 Chevy Cavalier, not to mention my cavalier was faster than the LS version of this car. Just for the money of loaded Ls, wasnt worth it. I also test drove the SS supercharged version and compared to the Honda Si and the VW Gti it was like driving a moped compared to them 2 cars. Was slow for 200 some odd hp(forget what it is excatly) had terrieble turning radius, but that could be due to the 18's that were on it. The interior was pretty boring and felt cheap. The Pioneer factory sound system was tits though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yes I have the 2.3L VVT (standard in the GT/GFX model, equivalent to the 2.3L Ford Duratec in your Focus).. I do a lot of hwy miles and check my mileage regularly (I get paid for mileage for work, so I keep a log).. I consistently get +/- 650kms (406 miles) per tank, 48L (12.7gal) per fill, equalling 7.36L/100km (31.96mpg) with an avg mix of hwy/cty driving.. I should also note that my car is a 5-speed.. I don't know what you're doing to get such poor mileage, but that just doesn't sound right to me since we have the same engines.. I'm guessing yours is an auto, but that doesn't explain such a gap.. I have heard reports over on the Mazda3 forums about people getting about the same mileage as you.. You might learn something from this thread http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=45774.0 dealing with poor gas mileage and what others have done to try to improve it.. From what I recall, there doesn't seem to be a pattern, and some experience poor mileage, while others get great mileage, such as myself.. Good luck..

I will read that link in a few. (Thanks by the way) I dont friggin get it then. My car only comes in stick with the ST package. It is a 5- speed like yours and I love the shit out of it. I mean this thing goesssssss really good when you need it anyway. I just dont get it. Do new cars need a certain time to break in or something. I only have 2500 miles on it so far and the most I have gotten out her is 293 miles on a full tank of gas and it cost me 31 bucks at 2.73 a gallon most cases. I mean I dont even get on it anymore and try to **** the most out of it. Also I have a question for you. When the fuel light lites up and tells you need to get gas soon, how many miles is it safe to usually go when that pops up? Just wondering, cause usually when that pops up, I put about 10 miles on it then get gas. I know it probably isnt good to go too long, just wondering. Ok well off to visit that link. Peace! Oh yeah nice ride if that is yours. Love the color.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I agree, I thought the Cobalt was kinda crappy too.. Ranks right up there with the Neon and Sunfire.. Didn't this replace the Cavalier? But my opinion may be a little biased, since I don't like domestics at all, and after some bad past experiences (and current ones with my friends) I'll never buy domestic again, until they can boost their quality anyways..

Yes it replaced the cavalier. Same poor build quailty. I mean the dont look all that bad, but just dont seem to very smooth and seems just as cheap if not cheaper than my 02 cavalier. So wasnt about to get into something like that.

I just read the link and Thanks. Lot of good info on there. I am amazed about the a/c always staying on like that. No wonder. Cause I have set to floor a lot. Cause I put it there when I am not using it and put the fan on 0, well I do notice cold air always coming out of it. At first I thought it was outside air, I guess I was wrong. Oh hell I dont know. I am confused, lol!

Thanks BigBang.. It's called Winning Blue.. I picked it over all the others, and I am still getting compliments on it a year later.. I originally went to buy a white one, but when I saw this color, it jumped right out at me and I changed my mind immediately..

Your car was pretty much broken in by the time your first tank of gas was used up.. 2500 miles is a good time to give it its first oil change if you haven't yet, since it's one of the most important since this is when you're going to get the most metal coming off as things are getting settled in.. I haven't tackled my own oil changes yet since I hear the new filter cartridges are a ***** to deal with.. A lot of the quickie-lube places don't have them, but I take my car to the dealer for service anyways.. You might want to check with those places first if that's where you plan on getting them done and they can order them in for you if they don't have any, or you can buy them online or from your dealer and bring them with..

As for the fuel light, I've gone as far as about 60 kms (40 miles) comfortably after the light has come on, although I wouldn't call it an exact science to when the light comes on in any two different cars.. For example, going thru a cloverleaf when I'm getting near empty will cause it to come on sooner than it normally would when the fuel shifts in the tank, and even after I straighten out again it doesn't go off.. It all depends on the situation at the time.. But on average there seems to be quite a reserve when it comes on, and I know exactly where my gauge reads when I REALLY need to refuel.. I don't go into panic mode when the light comes on since I think 60kms is plenty of notice.. A lot of guys will recommend not going below a 1/4 tank to avoid picking up any dirt that accumulates in the tank, but I don't think it's a big deal myself, and it's just not practical for me..

Anything else? And sorry to jack your thread faulkton.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Check out the Focus forums.. There was a mod over on the Mazda forums describing how to disable the AC from coming on until you actually turn it on, and I'm sure it will be similar on the Focus as well, if it's something you're interested in doing.. I see no need of having the AC on when it's snowing out.. I'll turn it on when I need it and save the gas.. But from what I know, the flr, flr/def, and def settings turn on the AC (as long as the fan is on too) even though the AC light isn't on and there's no way to turn it off.. They say they do this to help with defrosting and to keep the AC unit lubricated.. I say I can be the judge of that..
