why puttin down a sub???

Seems like PA and any of it's sister companies hit a soft spot between people on this forum. I like their amps at least. After owning some SPL ELF subs in my first setup, I don't see myself going back to the company in the future.

The ELF subs are like pyle subs. But what do you really expect of those? They were made way back when. Subs are subs, some are for sq some for spl and some for both. There is no best one. I personally dont care for the ELF subs either, low power handling and sound like @ss. I was impressed on the ML line, rated at 600wrms and had 2 12" hooked up to the orion @ 1ohm and hit 144.5DB on the AC190 Certified at a regional event. Thats not bad for $60 subwoofer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Thats why I started this whole thread in the first place, people bashing woofers for no apparent reason, because there is no best one and never will be. I used to bash woofers too till I heard a pair of 2-12" audiobahns hit 158-9DB on the AC 190. Plus, Im saying just because 1 woofer maybe $100+less and have similar specs doesnt always mean it wont compare in performance;)

see people always put down audiobahn which is the reason why I bought em. Too find out for myself. Everyone said they would **** and wouldn't do squat. Well going by ear(i know that isn't much) but everyone that has heard my system says its the loudest they have ever heard. i would guess most of it is the box design.

When I get another set of subs I will be getting Audiobahn again because they have performed wonderfully for me.

with that said....i think i'm going to use 2 pyramid hyper pro 12's and put them in a bandpass box tuned at 70hz and have an orion 1200d push them and see what numbers i get....i'm serious.....dont be surprise if i have pics up in september

Why not, Ive seen Volfanhags get decent #s;)

Here's a thought

What good is power handling if it cannot be turned into acoustical energy?

Put 70kw on a brick...it still lays there on the ground...doesn't go anywhere...doesn't produce any acoustical energy...and essentially...acoustically dead...

I can make a woofer take a ton of power...that's easy...

Making a woofer loud, is an entirely different ballpark...

True, but the old Bahns pictured above have the same design as the SPLW12's;) Its just that some woofers take more power than the others to achieve the "acoustical energy":)

where am I putting him down?
that's right... I'm not..

I'm trying to get him away from those subs... which is limiting his rather good SPL performance so far...

here's the post where I ALREADY discussed the SPL woofer

wth is going on around here nowadays.... just ban me, then I won't have a reason to keep coming here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

thanks for the link, thanks for the info. i didnt mean to be rude in any way. it just seemd to me that you were puting him down as a competitor because of the equipment he could afford, and subsequently, was using.

now, if you could explain in what way, the other speakers (the cvr for example) were "better" than the speakers he is using, that would be quite helpful. because in his application, they are in an SPL application, most likely, with daily driving capabilities.

instead of posting all kinds of slander toward his equipment, claiming they are terrible and such and such, maybe explain why, and what he should look into (that fits his price bracket and performance issues).

i know you suggested the SX. but its a little on the higher price end.

sorry loyd, i didnt mean to have it aimed like that. just seems like its getting out of hand in here

Req,

there is no reason too. You have been to a couple of comps you have seen all types of drivers hitting good numbers Example... Eclipse, memphis, kicker, fusion... I have seen many different brands of subs hitting good numbers. Now who would imagine a pair Eclipse Ti quad 15" subs would pull a 161.3db with no wall and that many watts that McVay gives them??? Or a pair of volfanhag 10"s hitting 148db??? Again, most of the highs spl scores have at least 5000wrms to infinity. Now you tell me does the sub brand have anything to do with these high scores??? Or is it wattage and install??? Loyd won championships thats cool, must have worked hard to do it, good job but I have also been around champions as well as world record holders too. McVay, Team XSS, Team Maximum Threshold. Loyd would probably have a negative comment on the subs they are using also because they are not RE;) This will be my last post in this thread of "why putting down a sub".

Eggy

I may not particularly like some companies, due to their prices, business practices, or attitudes... but I can still respect their performance potential...

and there's a BIG difference between 'hitting good numbers', and 'hitting world record numbers'

I can make nearly anything loud enough to be competitive... but when it comes time to run with the big dogs, the field narrows...

dig through the various organizations links for finals, you'll see a very definite pattern to what people win with..... only a handful of certain companies..

like nick said.. we currently run what we run now for a reason...
