Why do people hate Sony

About 3 years ago:

My first system was 2 12" sony xplod's in a prefab sony box, circuit city sold it as one unit. I can't remember the model number but it was a black carpeted box with the 2 subs and an aero port on the side. I bought it on black friday for $80 (only reason I bought it), along with a sony xplod head unit and amp.

Now, I didn't know sh*t about subs/stereos back then, so I had the sub gain on the headunit to +10, and on the amp to about 90% of the way. I'm sure I was clipping the hell out of the signal, but the subs still lasted close to 2 years with me bumping at full volume every day. When I say "lasted", I mean until I sold them and bought my new audioque sub lol. I've talked to the person that's bought them and they're still running good.

The sony amp I bought would get very very hot after about 20 minutes of play-time, so I installed some computer fans onto it (4 in total) on a little home-fabricated case. It looked professional and worked pretty good, but I'm still sure I could've cook an egg on the amp. Never went into protect, though

With all that being said, I wouldn't discount sony as total dogsh*t. But now that I'm running an actually semi-respectable system, it really is night-and-day.

Some of their amps aren't that bad, but not that good either, just mediocre, subs are weak, but sound okay if you don't overpower them (bottom them out) they are ugly (pentagonal shape, red, yuck). Definately beginner stuff, but if I was a newbie and wanted cheap subs and amps Sony would not be my choice. Their head units are pretty nice, as was the PS1, PS2, and PS3 gaming consoles, they should concentrate all their moneys on that stuff, not car audio, except maybe head units.

This is just a general question. Do people hate Sony from actual experince or does everyone just jump the bandwagon. Why do people hate them? From all I've read is that they are entry level speakers/subs, and only few people have blown them, from what I presume is misuse.
So give your input. (constructively )
I had 2 pairs of 10's tinsel leads snap due to being too short to allow for excursion. I will say Sony's warranty dept. was excellent. They build cheap and cut some corners that shouldn't be cut.

As far as the 'bandwagon' I think it came by and picked everyone up when Sony came out with those stupid 5 angle cones. They were a hybrid between a round sub and a square sub, all while performing worse than either.

If one wants decent sound that can be had for cheap, the Xplod will work, provided it is installed in an enclosure matched to the vehicle it is installed in.
This pretty much sums up any brand. Yes to get certain numbers, some brands shine. To get a good clean sound that will prove to be durable...its all in the install not the equipment.

Sorry on the double post...

i don't hate sony, hell i'm rockin' a sony double din right now. it's the new XAV-60. yeah I have my issues with it but the sound quality is really, really good. okay so I am cheating, the sound quality is only really good b/c I'm using all Audiocontrol sound processing.

I FUCKING LOVE OLD SONY!

I absolutely love the look of all pre-Xplod amps. They sound amazing, too. I have an XM-3021. It's underrated and performs very well.

I also happen to have a pair of Sony SSU-1800 speakers (home audio) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif For those of you who don't know what they are, well...You are among everyone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Look them up on google, for the thread on Audiokarma...The guy I bought it from posted pictures, hiding their identity, trying to find someone who knew what they were...and they had to beg in order to find out! They sound absolutely fantastic...Despite the non-running mid (crossover issue) and the need for a re-cap. They laugh at all the power I throw at them (around 100wrms) which is what they are rated at //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif They are giving my Technics SB-7000A's a very good run for their money...

That being said, I fucking hate new Sony. I had an Xplod sub, and it sucked ass. No need to elaborate. Everything I have played with, being their speakers, subs, amps, and decks, ALL have terrible sound quality. And yes, I know, 99% install, 1% equipment, but still. Throw a comparably priced non-mainstream sub into the same install (tweaked separately for each sub) and the difference will be more than obvious.

I would like to one day own everything good that Sony made...because their good shit was, well, really good.

And you are what already looks like a bandwagon jumper since your input was neither informative nor constructive.

And thank you infamous_e46 for your input.
your an idiot stop making threads like this whens there is probably a thousand already on sony xplods learn2search dipshit.

The Mobile ES line was top quality for its day (much like Alpine F#1 Status). But many years ago Sony went away from the ES line totally, and their business plan appeared to change towards building mediocre equipment with an emphasis on marketing rather than performance. There is no reasonable explanation for a 5-sided subwoofer, nor a logo/brand name like "XPLODE!" other than to entice the less knowledgeable portion of the car audio enthusiast market. They have had some nice pieces here and there since the Mobile ES line died, but few and far between.
