why can't you wire subs 1ohm

The MD2D will handle .5ohm daily on a decent electrical system. They arent warrantied down that low but they will do it.

I never ran mine at .5, but at 1 with 120amp alt and a yellow top in the trunk it was sufficient.

 
Think of the two d4's as a one ohm circuit.

When you add another two d4's you have

another one ohm circuit. All you can do with two

1 ohm circuits is either wire them in parallel for

a .5 ohm or series or 2 ohms.
