Who has the most baller computer?

I don't understand how it could be a waste of money. Where exactly did you read that? Just run a program like 3dmark.... Use one card, then use two. If you scores improve to a point that makes you happy you bought another card, then it wasn't a waste of money. In my case, I practically got two 7600gt's for the price of one. I feel it was worth it.
well theres a couple forums that actually ran tests and posted the results, and the sli cards were only SLIGHTLY better. not enough of a difference to spend another $400 on a vc. i got a 7600gt now, im thinking about running in sli. still not sure though.

Personally, I'd only SLI if I was at the highest card already. If it came down to me getting two $250 7900GTs, I'd just get one $500 8800GTS. It'd give about the same performance, actually I'm pretty sure it'd be more, and you'd have the potential to SLI that in the future. And at the lower end, I'd only SLI 7600GTs if, like the above poster, I got two for the price of one, or close to it. Otherwise I'd put the $150 x2 together and get a 7950GT or X1900XT.

And just a little update, I got the patch and ran it again...

Score: 5061

EDIT:

$120 7600GT (OCed and great brand)

or

$250 7950GT

If you could get $100 for your current card locally, I'd sell it and get that 7950GT, it'd be a much better investment, IMO.

Stock scores for an eVGA 7600gt are something between 6000 and 7000. My stock score was in the low 10,000's. My overclocked score is 10,9xx. If you consider that SLIGHTLY better, I guess it would be a waste of money for you.

Edit: Scores in 3dmark05.

Edit2: Jmac posted an nVidia 8800 '05 score earlier, and it was mid 11,000's. The difference between that and my score is SLIGHTLY better in my opinion, and not worth the price gap.

uhm.. yeah i wish. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

How'd you get a pic of my PC?

If he only got mid 11,000's in '05, something isn't right. 8800GTXs were getting 16000ish in '06, which is quite a bit harsher...

SLIs main benefit is that you can purchase another card in the future to gain a large boost in performance for less money than it would cost to get a different card. Keep in mind, though, this isn't always true, especially if you have a high-end card.
However, a single $400 card will almost always destroy two $200 cards, is less of a hassle, and the performance is more consistent between applications.
Agreed. But in answering his question, SLI can be worth the money if you don't want to spend $400 on a video card. Shopping for a good deal on two middle of the line cards and running them in SLI can keep a computer fairly up to date in terms of running new games.

I figure I'll be able to run new games for at least the next year on at least "medium" settings, which is fine for me.

Keep in mind that the 8800 GTS runs ~8000 in 3DMark06 and ~15000 in 3DMark05 without CPU bottleneck. My 8800 GTS is severely bottlenecked by my processor, thus the significantly lower scores.
Also, keep in mind that I got my 8800 GTS for $270 CAD (~$230 USD) ...
i wanna find a deal like that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what do your rigs idle at temp wise?
My GPU is running 52C right now, not sure about my CPU/Ambient because I don't feel like installing the program that came with my mobo right now. My GPU idle used to be a lot lower, but since I've installed my new HDDs, they block like 2/3 of my front case fan so a lot of my airflow as been slacked. I may try and rearrange it one day, but my temps aren't dangerously high (76C under load) and I'm a lazy bastard.
