which sub

I have a 12 inch sealed square enclosure and need a sub for it. My amp is a pioneer that spec's 760w max. Ive found 2 that are in the ballpark. the first one ive never heard of:

alpha sound power master wsq 1212

800 watts max

the second:

crunch bmx 12 sq

300 rms/600 max

http://auctions.overstock.com/cgi-bin/auctions.cgi?PAGE=PRODDET&PRODUCTID=266710

I have to run 4ohm or more (amp). Im leaning towards the crunch and just keeping the gain on the amp down alittle, this shouldnt cause a problem. should it?

or should i get the 800w max eventhough the only mention of it I can find on the entire web is that one page listed above?

I have a small sealed kicker box ( not sure exact dimensions)

The amp is a pioneer x862 380 rms bridged into a 4ohm minimum, 760 max

My budget is low.

I have a kicker L5 12 now but its the dvc 4ohm's each. im running it at 8 ohm because my amp isnt 2 ohm stable in mono mode so its only getting about 250 rms, maybe 500 max, severly underpowered.

I figured it would be cheaper to change the sub rather than the amp. Im trying to get a harder hit.

The L5 is a decent sub. Why would you want to replace it with those crappy subs?? That'd be a total downgrade. Definitely just upgrade the amp. How much do you have to spend?

I believe you'll have a tough time finding a square woofer of the same quality as the L5 (without upgrading to a better Kicker). Spend $150-200 on a better amp that'll drop safely to 2ohm or better.

thanx guys

i know alot of people dont like boss amps but I got a riot 1500 on ebay cheap. it says 800w rms and 1500w peak @ 2 ohms. im assuming those numbers are slightly inflated. hopefully the rms is somewhere around 600. im gonna keep using the L5 and switch it to a 2 ohm load.

Also, if the AMP manufacturer doesnt list the RMS rating, dont get it. If the SUB manufacturer doesnt list the nominal RMS rating, dont get them either..

Try to Match rms ratings, but keep the AMP rms under the SUB's max RMS rating. this eliminates alot of variables and future head-scratching.

(PS: many consumers would push more power through their subs than the nominal RMS says, and their subs can take it. Some subs have a reputation for taking higher power ratings. However, be careful to adhere to the power ratings and warnings from the equipment manufacturer.)

also, you dont have to run full rms. You can stay a lil under to be safe. You most likely will not notice an audible difference in running 600wrms opposed to 700wrms.
