Which sub to get? 12 xxx or 13w7!

The RE and JL are designed for sealed performance. The RE will have the very low end advantage but it will require something like 3-4 times the power to match the JL above ~20-30 Hz. If you're planning on a bass reflex system look for a different woofer with a lower Qts

Yeah. Power may be an issue for me. I upgraded my electrical, so ai know my electrical can handle it. But I'm being told the Tantrum ain't gonna be enough power for something like the Xcon or the XXX.

How the hell do you blow up a 12w7 on ~1200rms? You must have been clipping the hell out of it?

and if you have limited space why not just run a few badazz 8s ported low?

I had the amp up only 2/5ths of the way and the remote bass control half way up. It was hitting hard, and than just stopped playing. Took it to the guy who installed it and he said the coil was locked up.

I know this question has been asked before, but I need to hear recommendations for a sealed enclosure only. I have an 01 Mustang GT and the trunk is so small I can only fit a sealed enclosure, ported is not option. I'm only looking to run 1 sub to at least have a little trunk space left over. I just blew my 12w7 with my PG Tantrum 1200.1 only 2/5ths turned up. I plan on keeping my Tantrum because I love it and don't wanna dish out $$$ for another amp. The SQ on my 12w7 was great. It got loud, but it left me wanting more output. I like SQ, but I love that deep hitting bass you can feel, and I like my music loud. So with output being my first priority, deep bass being my 2nd and sq being my 3rd, which sub would you recommend me to get? And would my Tantrum be enough power for the 12 XXX?
I can get a brand new RE XXX 12 shipped with 2yr warranty for $519, or a brand new JL 13w7 with warranty from a guy that works at an authorized JL dealer for $540.

Oh yeah, my birthsheet on the Tantrum is 1507 and I have beefed up my electrical with a XS D3400 and other mods, so I have the proper electrical. All thoughts, comments and opinions are appreciated. Let me have it fellas. Thanks!

It's easy to get a ported box in those Mustangs. Take out the floor & spare tire, gives you much more room to wedge a box in there. Kinda hard to get the floor cover back in, but it's definitely do-able.

If you're set on using that amp, I'd go with (3) 10" Sundown SA-10 subs ported. It's gonna cost about the same (maybe less), have much better SQ, & hit 10x harder than a 13W7. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I like JL Audio amplifiers, but they're subwoofers are really lacking, regardless of price.

I tried to not overpower it because of the small box, which is why I had it turned down, but it still blew. I'm definitely going ported this go round.

Thanks for you guys' input. Sorry to make things more complicated, but I'm now leaning towards the 12" Xcon that was recommended by SG. Checked out their site last night and it's definitely tempting. Once again, decisions...

you will have to ask him if it can handle 3kw daily tho... I doubt it... but I don't have any experience with them..

an HCCA will take 3kw and is tons beefier... ( and only needs 2cf net ) but they cost 600$...

SSA says it will take 1750 rms..

so make sure 1st before you buy it..

your 2 tantrums strapped will make 2400-3000 watts rms..

Didnt read the thread, so this may have already been said;

....The newer model RE XXX needs a huge sealed enclosure in order to perform as it's intended (or so I've been told), so it's out of the question for ya...

I can understand that. But I appreciate the input anyways. I'll most likely order the Xcon tonight. Now the only challenge left is the box.

better make sure the xcon can take 2400 -3000 rms b4 you buy it...

not to say it can't take it but it has no where near the build ( from the specs they show ) of a 3kw sub imo... it takes alot to make a sub take that power daily.. I am tired tho so may have missed the obvious...
