Which 12" Sub Plays the deepest

Hi I've been researching and looking at websites reading about specs and things you can do to get the lowest notes from a sub but I've run into a problem. This is the first time in over 15 years I've ever bought a sub that doesn't make audible the super low bass notes or if it plays them you can barely hear them. For example Ludacris's Money Maker. Those notes are super deep. I want to buy new 12" subs for my 1.5 cuft per side sealed sub box. From what I've read it would seem that Alpine Type-R's or Kickers CVX's would do the trick, low and boomy, not super punchy. More cone surface area??? I know you want to know what I have now and they are the 12" Diamond Audio D3's. 400rms. I am running a kenwood 9152 which has plenty of power to kick some bass but what the heck is going on with the Diamonds? The response I get when I ask local stereo shops is the they more SQ woofers but heck so are JL's and they get down and then some. Can you give my like 2-3 names of subs I could try to help me achieve my goal since I don't want to change boxes and get a larger ported box. Like I said in the past I've had sealed boxes that sounded perfect hitting all the lows like JL and Soundstream. Pleeeeze help a bass feind out!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Thanks!

i know this isnt what you want to hear, but its your box (or bad amp/ HU settings).

most subs have the ability to play low bass (some are better at it than others), and D3s definitely can. what are the exact specs of your box now?

For that sealed box, you want a woofer with a low Fs/high Qts. Good woofers for the job would be:

Alpine Type X

'06 RE XXX

TC Sounds TC12 OEM

JL 12W7

Phoenix Gold Ti Elite

There really aren't many subs for this job nowadays... most are geared towards powerhandling and SPL rather than low end extension. A good way to figure it out is dividing Fs/Qes. That number is the EBP (efficiency bandwidth product) of the driver. A general rule of thumb is that if the EBP is around 50 then it is geared towards sealed boxes and will get nice and low. If its significantly over that, its not going to get low sealed, and your probably better off porting it if thats the kind of response you are looking for.

I agree with Hundreth... there are not too many subs out nowadays that are really meant to get low in a sealed enclosure. The Type-X is a great sealed performer and should drop very low in that enclosure.

The other problem you might be seeing is in recordings or subsonic filters. The song you mentioned has material that only goes as low as 33hz and it's recorded pretty low. That's getting low but not very extreme. Check for a subsonic filter on your amp; you should turn this off. It might help some.

The box was built to spec 1.5 cuft per sub. HU crossover to 80hz.

Thanks, I did turn it down but the middle typical deep bass is nice and strong but the low lows are still low sounding, i can hear it but it's not strong. I'm opting to by a 4 band Soundstream EQ that with a sub that can tune me to down to 20hz with a 10volt pre-amp.

JBL GTI's get low
Ive heard that those XXX subs get hella low also
Dude the GTI is way too much for me, what is that 3000 watts!?!?!? Ok I do want to hear crickets at night! Hahahah. Seriously the P1222 look hot and I've heard they can do some damage, have you heard them in person in a sealed box?

Thanks for the info. I think the type X is more than I need. I'm looking for no more than 500 watts per side. Like the Type-R's. I'll do that formular on some subs I'm considering. In your opinion for sealed which would be #1? Type-R, JBL P1222, Kicker CVX12, or Punch P3? I know you guys all have preferences but just interested in what you know.

Thanks!

Ok I did some checking and here's what I found

ALPINE TYPE-R 1222D = 63.63

DIAMOND AUDIO D312 = 52.77

Kicker CVR12 = 47.45

It looks like the Kicker would be the best for sealed boxes and lowest bass notes, your comments?
