What size speakers for homemade boombox?

I'm in the middle of making a homemade boombox (similar to those ice chest boomboxes you may have seen) to put in my UPS truck. It's made out of medium density fiber board and covered in carpet. The inside dimensions are 14"W X 10"H X 6"Deep. I have the Alpine 9803 HU to install in it and I was planning on putting a pair of Alpine 690a 6X9's in it. I've read on a few posts that 6X9's sound muddy and tend to distort when cranked up loud. I don't know much about speakers but I'll admit that I always assumed that bigger speakers sounded better. Now I don't know what size speakers to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, understand that I'm not trying to win any competitions here, I just want it to play as clean and loud as possible. Thanks

Oval speakers usually distort more, but for most purposes it really doesn't matter. You could go with 6.5s and be happy and it would sound better, but 6x9s will have a bit more bass though i can't promise you how it will sound if you buy crappy ones. Give us some kind of budget on speakers there may be better ones than those alpines.

Yeah, I'd recommend just using a good 6.5" speaker. If you want to go crazy, get a component set, it would sound very nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif But the 6.5" speaker should sound nicer, imo, and the 6x9 will have more bass due to the area, but it's your call.
