what should he buy?

Hey guys my freind wants to buy a system. He just wants sub(s), an amp, and a head unit. His budget is $400-500. Any recommendations on what he should get? He said he wants sql...so he wants it loud but doesnt want it to sound bad.

I was thinking like a kicker cvr, hifonics amp, and pioneer headunit (probably like a dehp3000ib or something)

So what do you guys think?

Pioneer is always a good choice for an HU, I have nothing but good things to say about them. You could do better than the Hifonics amp. On ebay ikesound is selling Orion HCCA D2400's (1200wrms @ 1 ohm) for 180 shipped, new, I would buy some but I already have 2. great deal IMO. But probably too powerful for his price range, unless you wired it at 2 ohms and bought a sub that needs like 800wrms. I think 2 10" CVR's on 800wrms would sound good. Or 1 10" L7 isnt bad either, they arent bad in SQ when ported. They dont sound half as bad as these competition subs. My 1 10" L7 in a 2.25 cu ft ported enclosure tuned to about 35hz sounded better in SQ and loudness than 2 10" CVR's in about 1 cu ft each with the same amp.

How much space does he have for subs? And where are you in MD?

he drives a van, so he has quite a bit of room (not sure exactly how much cubic feet or anything)

He heard my single 12" type r in a 2.15 cubic feet ported enclosure tuned to around 37hz fb and he said he doesn't need something that powerful lol. So he's probably lookin for something around 400RMS or so. Maybe a single CVR?

Now that I think about it there arent much good choices in subs in the mainstream. Like not much medeokre subs that arent too expensive. A 12" CVR which can be had at around 80$ on ebay would be a good candidate for his application. Or AQ SD2.5 series also bangs from what I hear.

I would rather buy a Orion HCCA-D2400 wired at 2 ohms will put out 800wrms, and would push that AQ SDC2.5 better than that ZX500.1 for the same price. AQ is underrated on RMS ratings.

Eh, I am not fond of the new HCCA's, I had a d5000 and hated it. Only thing I dislike about the Kickers is the crappy, non-defeatable ssf

That crunch amp doesn't do anywhere near rated iirc, otherwise not bad for a basic install

ok but that amp says it does 500RMS at 2ohms, so would it be near 400RMS at 2ohms? Becasue the sub is 400RMS at 2ohm final load.

I figured it didnt get close to rated thats why i told him to get an amp with higher RMS than what he was shooting for

$100 dollar Pioneer HU, A HiFonics amp, and an RE-SE or SX. I forget which one is cheaper.

Yeah I think that crunch amp will do rated, it has 100A of fuses, so 100A x 13v= 1300watts @ 60% efficiency = 780 watts. So I would expect 500wrms out of it unless the fuses are just for looks. Just remember a class AB amp is not as efficient as a class D amp, so he might have a little dimming of the lights.

Instead why not get a Hifonics BXI608D 600wrms @ 1 ohm, but will actually do 80% of rms power, so you should expect 480wrms. Runs like 130 bux shipped from ebay. I would rather run that, than that crunch
