What Fuse To Use?

sounds good to me.. i think i'll got with knukonceptz then.. QUESTION - which wires will I actually have to replace? Im guessing I can just leave my RCA cable but I should replace the 10awg with the 4awg and also I guess I should buy an extra 3ft of 4awg for the ground or should that be a different gauge?.. Am I ok to leave the Remote Turn On wire I figure that gauge would be the same in any kit or am I wrong there? Also I should pick up some 12awg speaker wire to replace the 18awg I've got running to the subs currently, correct?

And also what type of fuse and fuseholder do I need to buy? An ANL fuse? Today I was told those little tube fuses only run up to 80amps when i asked them about a 100 amp fuse.. Then he told me they had 250amp ANL fuses .. thats when i got confused and walked out =]

yea but i had already bought a lightning audio kit the only problem was it was a 10gauge kit .. so i figure i dont ahve to replace everything.. itll be cheaper to buy the parts i need separately

10 ga is crap, even 8 ga is crap, your gonna have to re run the power an grounds with 4 ga, I'd order 25-30 feet of 4 ga, a 60 amp fuse and fuse holder and about 2-4 4ga ring terminals

Az, wire is wire, you may argue the minute changes that can be seen on paper/computer screen with higher quality wire, but if you get a good strand quanity 4awg wire, it wont matter what brand it is. Assumingthe insulation is sufficient enough to handle the engine bay temps.

So with that being said, you could probably save a lot of money by getting a scoche kit from wal-mart. The RCA's may be a little cheap but those are easily replaceable or you can just stick with the LA ones you have now.

The remote wire does not need to be replaced with a bigger awg wire. Your speaker wire should be fine. 16AWG wire is usually sufficient for most dd systems.

And how is that? It is made to meet the needs of certain electrical appliances......
10ga and 8ga are useless when it comes to higher powered amps, I can see 8 ga maybe for a power inverter or a low powered 4 channel, put most amps now aday's have at least 4ga ipower and grounds, I know I wouldn't use 10ga for my amps

So you are speaking in terms of class-d and other high rated amplifiers. It wouldnt make sense to say most amps have 4awg terminals since history has shown that technology constantly improves things, which would lead us to believe that amps are becomming more and more efficient which intern would lead us to believe that every day there is an amp that will produce the same ammount of power but pull less amps. Therefor reducing the need for excesevly large power/ground wire. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am an installer, and customers give me Wal-Mart amp install kits to use all the time.

They contain everything I need to hook up an amp and the quality of the wire is good.

The gauge of the wire is properly labeled, and is very flexible.

The supplied teminal connectors work well.

The RCA cables are of good quality and have never given me noise problems in any of my installs.

The supplied fuse or fuses is always appropriate for the wire.

The fuse blocks/distro blocks are not very flashy but do their intended job well.

All wire lengths are appropriate for running from the battery to the trunk in standard cars.

Don't knock Wal-Mart wire kits, they are the best bang for the buck you can get offline.

Code:
oh ya thats right I forgot, the RF 801s only has 8 ga inputs
Just use a wire stripper to reduce the wire size down at the terminals, Wal-Mart also has a two amp hook up kit that includes a 4gauge main with a distro block and for two 8gauge lines(supplied).

Crimp a connector on it, On an RF amp I think they use a spade connection for the remote input so just pickup a female spade connector, crimp it onto the wire and plug it in.

Hey I should probably start another thread but Ill see if this works..

my Remote Turn On wire is causing noise from the speakers because its not properly insulated where it connects to the Amp... My RF Manual says that the amp originally came with a connector specifically for ensuring insulation but I got it second hand without the other stuff so I dunno what to use to insulate it.. I tried just wrapping it in eletrical tape it somewhat works but the noise only goes away 100% if I tightly squeeze on the connection..

The most common culprit from engine noise is not the remote lead, but your RCAs.

Thats fine. I was just stating that I have had great success with always getting what I needed from KnuKonceptz. They have great customer service, great prices, and great quality products. You can usually find a kit that contains everything you need from them, and if you need something special ordered, they hook you up to fill your needs. However, Walmart and others, may only be limited to stock on hand kits. So you potentially wont get what you are looking for if they are out of stock at the moment.

Excuse me if I come off like an *** every once in a while, I am just a "stickler" for doing things right. Chit, I even wrap all my wires in color-coded expandable sleeving and use heatshrink tubing at all connections. But thats just me.
