You typically fuse for the wire gauge, not necessarily amplifier amperage drawn, but you can. The wire shorting is usually what's being protected, so you fuse what the wire can hold, unless your amp doesn't have built in fuses.

The manual for the Taramps hd2000 recommends a 115 amp fuse or breaker.
