voltage problems

idleing in park is different then idleing in gear bro... theres alot more load on the engine when its in gear (atleast in an automatic)
Yea, that's true. But for real I gotta have a problem. Brand new 220 alternator should not have any voltage drop when not running any accessories (no lights, amps, a/c) in idle. Just doesn't make sense, stock alternators dont even drop like that

All my connections are solid tight

if your idle isnt dropping at all, and you have voltage drop... i would say probably a bad connection somewhere...

but if your engine strains at idle in gear... your probably going through you "break in" on your alt... which really isnt breaking in the alt, as much as giving your ecu time to correct itself for the extra load on the engine (when dc rates their alts at idle, its usually in between 800-1200 rpm... so if your idle speed drops due to strain, it can cause voltage drop)

I just saw the video and don't know if anyone has mentioned it...But the idling issue is not related to the big 3 IMO. That sounds like an issue with spark or air.
the OP already got it figured out bro... just had to give the engine time to correct itself

it could.... dont really see it being air, as much as fuel... running a lil bit lean, due to clogged filter, faulty injector, or even a dying fuel pump can cause idle drop... but like i said, give it a couple days... if it doesnt correct itself, check your plugs... cuz usually if its running lean, it will end up fouling a plug

where did you learn that? you foul a plug by being fat not lean. a lean motor is a hotter running motor thus the spark plug being hotter and not being able to get build up on it. too rich then you have an excess of fuel and the sparkplug cant keep up and gets the excess on it.

Also fuel related issue will cause a no start, engine miss, bogging when you punch the throttle. Ask me how i know? 4 fuel pumps in a year lol
I hope not. I'm not tryng to drop my fuel tank.

I'm pretty positive my engine is runnin like butter it's just the voltage/electrical problem.

It's not stalling really (already experienced that with my iac. Common problem with grand marqs/crown Vic)

I got a new iac a year or two ago. I suppose I could try messin with my tb and air filters and ****. Can't hurt. But I don't think it's a problem like that.. Fuel sending unit possible if my computer is telling it to send less fuel in idle

detonation, due to a lean engine, can also foul a plug bro... the only reason i'm saying lean on this one, is cuz if he was running rich, he would most likely smell it

do you know what your talking about? he would have to have something terribly wrong with his motor to have deto cause a plug to be fouled. he would hear a god awful knock if he had detonation

1.) yes i know what i'm talking about

2.) i'm not saying he is having deto in his engine, that any of his plugs are fouled, or that it even is a fuel problem... just that its a good place to start looking, if he is still having idle drop in a few days

3.) i'm giving hypotheticals here... you said lean conditions cant cause fouling... i rebutted... and you attack me, calling my knowledge into question... lets try your knowledge..

alot of engines run in a mild state of deto... with no damage at all. it's not optimal, but does not garuntee any type of internal failure. a lower output engine ,lets say .5 hp/in3 or lower (majority of american made 6 & 8 cylinders), can sustain mild-moderate levels of deto, without sustaining any damage, while a higher output engine, 1.5 hp/in3 (majority of import 6 cylinders & 4 cylinders), will be more susceptible to damage if it sees deto at all..

point being, with him driving a vic... his engine probably runs in a minor state of deto most of the time, due to a moderate level of spark advance, without any problem... now, if his A/F mixture goes a lil leaner, due to the reasons i listed in previous posts, it can cause the pressure spike from deto to rise substantially for a brief period of time, which in turn can foul a plug.

I'll check my plugs tomorrow. Its just gotta be something electrical though I know it.

What about the fuel sending unit?

Could my computer be bad, and not sending enough fuel in idle?

Its just really complicated, and I hate **** like this. Already spent $250 on an alternator that I apparently didnt really even need (didnt fix my problem or help out with anything)

I'm gonna call the company and see what they think.

Maybe its just a bad new alternator
