using a capcitor does help..........

and the blue paint that came off the crate these were shipped in, which transfered onto the cardboard box as powder and is now on my sheet and clothes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

and you realise than most cars have petrol engines right? and that more batteries on a petrol engine won't help... lol

I'm sure a whole heap of crapacitors would help though... lol

I am currently pushing 400 watts for the 2 clarion subs and 100 watts for the 2 front door speakers. My cap is a 5 Farad for future applications. I know .5 Farad would assist in a 500 watt sound system.

Wait, so you are noticing SIGNIFICANT dimming from 500Watts? Are you telling me that your 5 Farad capacitor is assisting your Alternator with the HUGE under 40amp draw from your 500watts of RAW power?

If you are getting dimming from 500watts, I'm surprised you can roll up your windows without a capacitor on them.

PS: OP, please link us to your super current drawing amp so we can determine if you are worthy of that 5F cap, thanks!

If you weren't so against the cap and you weren't so ignorant to how the thing was designed to work, you never would have asked if the cap was assisting my alternator. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i remove my cap few weeks ago since it killed my 1608d. Anyway, i put a 2006d and i don't know if it's because the amp is inneficient or because the cap was helping a lot, but my voltage drop are atrocious now, my hu and eq even shut down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i think its more a 400watt watt and inneficiency of older bxi model problem... but still i wasn't getting as much dimming before... i don't want to give the cap a credit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

xprime4, if you could do us a favor and test current from your amp before and after you have the cap in, if you don't mind.

Wishbone, if your alternator could handle it then you wouldn't need a Cap now would you? Therefore, it's assisting the alternator.

If I'm so ignorant on how the thing works, please explain, because I must be a full blown retard and I never knew it.

Your battery being connected straight to your amps , doesn't have anything regulate the juice from pooring out.WB
While we are at it Wishbone, explain why your car did not happen to catch on fire when you didn't have a cap in, you know, will all that power juice pooring out of your battery all the time.

The CAP does what it was exactly designed to do whether we like it or not.

The current draw will be the same. The difference is it will only draw current from the CAP when it is connected, not the car battery, which powers all of the other electrical devices connected in his car. That is how I know it helps. If he has a CAP like mine he can see the amount of AMPS being drawn while the music plays.

If you have the biggest alternator in the world, and it was never regulated to power your 5 amps you still will experience dimming. Now I have to bring out the mechanic experience on you. MOST if NOT all alternator have a regulator HERE LIES THE PROBLEM with the big three. Your alternator only delivers more current to the battery when it senses the battery voltage has droped to a certain level. When the battery is at a normal voltage, it backs off from sending current to the battery for recharging. In other words although you have upgraded to the big three, you are now stressing out a more expensive alternator.

With a cap installed and charged before you begin to use it, only loses voltage in such quick spurts it does not effect the alternator. Remember, the alternator works in conjuction with the battery, not accessories starving for more juice. The cap works off of stored voltage which is why they are helping when an amplifier demands more power. If you amps are in need of power and you don't have a cap installed , it will only get what the battery will send it when the battery is at full charge. If the battery is draining quickly, the amp now has to wait for the alternator to get battery back up to full charge for your amps to benifit, not the same when a cap is installed because caps charge VERY FAST ! I charged my cap in 11 seconds, 5 farads. I hope this helps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smokin.gif.f1dc8d2acb1809e863ebd6a47eaa0d45.gif

ps my car catching fire is irrelevant.

Are you retarded... when the amp draws from the cap and lowers the voltage, where do you think the cap is going to draw its current from to replenish the voltage?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Of course the cap recharges off of the battery //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif but, because it has stored voltage already, the cap can draw voltage from the battery, lets say 100 more times, before making the alternator send more current to the battery, then your amp being directly connected to the battery can before making the alternator send more current for charging the battery. The cap helps.

i really didn't even want to post in this thread but this last comment was just dumb. First get a cap with a voltage readout and see how it works. One bass note will drain the cap in seconds, then the cap gets recharged from the battery. If you look at the voltage readout you would notice that while playing bass the cap doesn't even get charged back to 14 volts because the bass is draining it quickly, therefore its not storing voltage, its like its not even there. The altemator is always recharging your battery when the car is on, so whether you have a cap or not the alt is sending voltage to the battery and amp. AGAIN WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING THE ALT IS CONSTANTLY SENDING VOLTAGE TO THE BATTERY, NOT JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT WOULD NEED TOO.You are ignorant and have a lot to learn about caps. I used to use caps and they worked fine for me, so i'm not really even putting them down, just learn how they work with the rest of your electrical and you won't sound like an idiot. Whether you use a cap or not is your choice, but learn what they really do before running off at the mouth
