upfiring sub vs rear firing sub

12'' dc lvl 4 running off an sae1000.

Think it would sound good in this box?

3.5 sq. ft. Fishercustoms box 39 1/2"x16 1/4x 18 1/8

The sub is mounted on the top and the slot port is pointing toward the rear of the car.

Whats the difference in sound of a box firing toward the rear and a box firing upward?

I personally have 2 12" type-r's in my civ in a ported box and I think rear-firing sounds better, it just seems like it smooths out the bass and amplifies the sound when it bounces of the back of your car and comes back at you. I let my back seats fold down and it sounds great. But like the posters above me said, if its not too much trouble, just toy around with it until you find what you like best.
